Bahamut Lagoon

Post by Didodeman »

i've got a minor problem... still waiting for the adapter to make Star Ocean, i went ahead and made Bahamut Lagoon.

well, after everything it works but there are bugs in it that make some words still in Jap and others still that just don't show up at all. all the dialog speech seems to be in English but some of the menu words and some words when i have to choose a or b are messed up.

i know the chips were correct because i re-read them and played them through zsnes, could it be a wiring problem? the guide i first used turned out to be wrong but i only had to move one jumper and remove one jumper. any suggestions?

First of all, you want to make sure you're using a clean ROM dump. Try to find a ROM with a [!] at the end of it, this means it is a verified good dump. Likewise, definitely avoid ROMs with a [b] at the end, which means it's a bad dump. In fact, avoid any code except [!].

Secondly, make sure you're applying the patch according the the directions of the author. It should specify whether to apply the patch to a ROM with or with out a header. This is very important.

Furthermore, research each patch thoroughly. I can clearly remember for Bahamut Lagoon because I made this mistake myself. There's two versions of the DeJap patch. One is for use with emulators, the other is for "backup units". You want to be using the version for backup units. I put the version for emulators on a cart and it appeared fine, but the customer reported issues including freezing.

thanks, that must have been what it was seens how it took me a lot of searching to find a copy of the one for use on the SNES. so i now have the copier verson and patched it fine, but a question, i would have to reprogram all the chips?

after seeing this problem, on Seiken Densetsu 3, i have patched the graphics improvement, the title screen to say Secret of Mana 2, and the 3 player hack. would those work on the SNES, even if ZSNES says it's a bad dump? I know that game repo site has the 3 player hack for sale so at least that one should work. have you tried any of them?

You may or may not have had to reprogram all of the chips. What you could have done is compare the split files to new split files in a hex editor. In other words compare the .1 file of the emulator patched version to the .1 of the backup patched version, the .2 to the .3, etc. You would only have to reprogram the parts that don't completely match.

As for the emulator reporting a bad dump, that can be OK in some instances. For example, let's say you're using a ROM that is clean and the emulator does not report a bad dump. Now let's you patch it perfectly, and you know the patch is clean. Now the emulator tells you it's a bad dump, but that's OK. The emulator see's the patched ROM as a bad dump because it wants to see the unpatched ROM. That doesn't necessarily make it a bad dump. Hopefully that makes sense to you.

As far as the 3 player hack goes, just watch out for the known bugs. There's one known bug that I know of, using a third person in a particular area in the game will cause the game to freeze. The way to get around this is to save before that area, play through it with out the 3rd person, then save and reset with the third person again.
