Based on what you said here, I'd say that you don't command or deserve a lot of respect yourself.DNT 2.5 wrote: I have made it quite clear to my teachers that I have no respect for "authority" I give and take respect, if they don't want to respect me, I won't respect them. It's simple, the teachers can get off their fucking high horse if they think putting MR./Mrs. before their name gives them any reason to deserve respect.

Re: You damn kids, Listen to your superiors!
To DLMVii -You actually thought it was OK to chew gum at school, especially during class?
It's been 10 years since high school for me, but I remember my school had a no gum rule. I don't think things have laxed that much in such a short span of time... Maybe I'm wrong.
Did you break any of the class rules your teacher set like no food/gum/drinks/cellphones during class? Even if you aren't being obnoxious with your chewing, you're still chewing gum which may or may not have been against the rules. You did it in your 6th grade class... that's elementary/JHS level, right? I'm fairly certain gum isn't allowed at most schools at that level...

No, it probably was against the rules. But that was the only sort of detention I ever had in school, and it was for something as stupid than that. (Instead of saying to me "Hey, spit out your gum", to which I would have gladly obliged). I mean, it was 10 years ago, I don't really care. But still, I distinctly remember her being way more mean to me about it than she needed to be.Upsidedown Fuji wrote:To DLMVii -You actually thought it was OK to chew gum at school, especially during class? It's been 10 years since high school for me, but I remember my school had a no gum rule. Re: You damn kids, Listen to your superiors!
When I was a teenager, kids were respectful to their teachers and parents, or else; so respect was given, whether the teacher was nice or a dick; you were always "yes Sir", "no Sir", "please Sir". When I was young I was very wary of my parents and also teacher discipline.
These days, many kids are like you DNT; behave like they are a few years older than they are (but without foundation or experience) and seem to think the world owes them a say and respect (like you touched on in your quote). Bottom line is a teenager is at the bottom of the food chain in life - they depend on others to feed and keep them safe (parents), teach them life (parents, teachers, peers), are incapable of survival in the real world, don't have anything more than a menial job (if that), and do not command any respect as they haven't made their mark on the world.
That's one of the reasons some forums run by kids are so unruly, "playgroundish", loutish and have no respect for others; how can they when they are run by kids like that and have similar douches as their members?
Note, BTW, the tone and content of the replies on this forum to your topic, ie adults; compare that to "other forums" you are on, replies to your topic there would be entirely different. "Point well made" as the saying goes!

Yeah, it's quite enjoyable and effective to tread the line like that. Once you master it, it becomes an art form.aaron wrote:nah, fuck that, be a smart ass but be intelligent and respectful.

Re: You damn kids, Listen to your superiors!
I had a teacher in middle school that was so strict about his "no gum" policy that if you were caught, he'd tell you to put the gum on your nose, which kids did. No bull.dlmvii wrote:In 6th grade a teacher made me serve lunch detention for chewing gum in her class. I wasn't blowing bubbles, I wasn't popping it. Just chewing.
Bitch.
The one time I was caught, I just gulped the gum down.

Bring back physical discipline. Teachers have it real bad nowadays.
