Over the years I've played a ton of Shanghai II, just ot list something not already mentioned. There's the regular tile matching with mahjongg tiles but there is also the Dragon's Eye mode where one person is trying to fill the board while the other is trying to clear it. Its one of my most played SNES carts since it is good when you want something you can take your time with.

Columns was my first experience of puzzle games and I like it a lot better than Tetris, but Tetris is the original and is recognized by everyone even people that don't know about games.

you need to start on a higher level and not sweat losing so much. Everyone loses. Pretty much any Puyo-puyo, Puzzle Bobble or Bomberman game. Dr. Mario and Tetris are also favourites.
