You damn kids, Listen to your superiors!

Post by DNT 2.5 »

I have lunch hour detentions for refusing to pick up garbage that was not made by me from our cafeteria. She told me to pick it up, I politely said I didn't have a lunch that day, the garbage wasn't mine. She flipped, said I was "disrespecting her authority" and took me to the office.
Once we were there, another teacher GAVE ME A VERY STERN TALKING TO! I shivered in my boots, I was terrified! He said "When someone throws something on my lawn I have to clean it up, if someone throws garbage in your areas, clean it up" I replied something along the lines of "One, I don't own the land I was sitting at. Two, I don't pay to maintain it, You do"
Then he got all RAGGGGEEE and now I get to miss lunch for a week. What a great punishment, I will be sure to learn from this experience! I would never do anything worse, They might lock me to school grounds for an hour!

Since you're talking smart to them I'm sure you're smart enough that you know you can't win.
Let them enjoy their power, play their game, and graduate. There's no point to "stick it to the man" in school.

nah, fuck that, be a smart ass but be intelligent and respectful. if someone is being unreasonable then it's okay to call them out on it, but it's important to maintain that you still recognize their authority.

I have made it quite clear to my teachers that I have no respect for "authority" I give and take respect, if they don't want to respect me, I won't respect them. It's simple, the teachers can get off their fucking high horse if they think putting MR./Mrs. before their name gives them any reason to deserve respect.

If you're being blamed for something you didn't do than you should say something. However there is a way to go about it without ticking off the teachers and administration.

I teach at the high school level and I try to respect every student that I see/interact with. I also try not to cause problems for students but I will push them if I need to. Most of the problems are not because of teachers on power trips (though they do exist) but because of students with poor attitudes and a sense of entitlement. Some students feel they are entitled to whatever they feel like, have a poor attitude, and make sure that everyone knows they and their friends are the only people that matter.

Honestly, if you see garbage on the floor and you're able to pick it up do so. It makes your school a much friendlier and cleaner place to be.

You really shouldn't go to school with a gun, because that would be wrong.

Teachers aren't "authority", they're mostly 30 somethings that gave up a bunch of opportunities and higher paying jobs to put up with political bull just to have the opportunity to educate kids. At least 90% of teachers are there to help you. No doubt there are some jack ass teachers, but no teacher cheers against you. And get ready for a shock...... Most college professors could care less. Most aren't reviewed, they can get tenure (aka they can't get fired) and over 50%, regardless of college, make 6 figures.

You have quite a high opinion of yourself, don't you?.

Why do you think you deserve respect before giving it?

What have you done to earn respect? (see above why teachers deserve respect)

Seems like you're the one who is on his high horse.
