nes repair

Post by tommyboy8689 »

so, my nes toploader is in rough cosmetic shape... it still works, thankfully, but after a search online ive found nothing about anybody having replacement plastic pieces for toploaders, has anybody ever seen any place where i could find parts for a toploader, i dont really want to buy a new one. any help would be appreciated.

Sorry chief, but I do not think you are going to find anything. I looked high and low about a year ago and could find very little for it except the AV mod.

You could always vinyl paint it like electrochip did. http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 78#p244078

Or make it shiny like zoki64 's custom job. http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 61#p207461

Missed that one. tommyboy8689, maybe click that link. Ziggy587 patched up some holes on this console, very nice!

Admittedly, my half-ass cardboard/superglue method wasn't the best idea. It would have been better to use an epoxy and sand it down.

TommyBoy, could you post some pics of your NES so we can get a better idea of what needs to be fixed?

For fixing up the crack, I suggest buying some plastic epoxy that works on ABS and get some flat plastic sheet such as a window from a product display box or the back flat section from a product clamshell. Cut a piece that fits on the inside area around the crack, but won't interfere with putting it back together or the slot workings. Mix up some epoxy and spread it thin on the plastic and stick that on the inside area where the crack is. It will be kinda like you're making a piece of strong tape to stick on the inside. I did this to fix some cracks in the dash of my car and it worked pretty good. The key is having the glue spread out holding a large area with something semi stiff, trying to just put glue in the crack itself doesn't hold as well. Then you can let that dry for a day and try some of the other suggestions here for resurfacing or painting. Though if you get the patch applied and the crack closed up pretty well, it might look halfway decent even like that.
