Why do you hate Final Fantasy X-2?
Re: Why do you hate Final Fantasy X-2?
She was a completely different character than the one she was in Final Fantasy X, sure she grew as a person and all that shit, but for fuck sakes, her switch in personality was a utter joke.

So is it safe for me to assume that one could just slap the name "Charlie's Angels: RPG Edition" and no one else would notice?emwearz wrote:She was a completely different character than the one she was in Final Fantasy X, sure she grew as a person and all that shit, but for fuck sakes, her switch in personality was a utter joke.

Actually, the original cover for FFVI did have Terra on it. And no other character, at that.Gamerforlife wrote:And just to further my point, who do you see on FF7's cover art? Cloud. Who is on the cover art for FFX2? Yuna(with her palls, but she's in the center of the picture and all the advertising revolved around her). And everything we've seen for FF13 like trailers and previews revolves around Lightning, even the cover art.
By comparison, was anyone really pushed as the main character of FF6? It was different with FF X 2. Square had a female lead and wanted everyone to know it. And what an embarrassing excuse for a main character she ended up being

The back of the S.Famicom box also prominently featured Terra, and no other character.

I'd say it's pretty obvious Terra is the main character. Sure, the story drifted from her for long periods of time, but it'd always come back to her. Like I said, even if you ignore her after the destruction and never have her join your party again, she'll force her way back into your party for the final battle. To my knowledge, no other character will do that.
You could argue Celes shares the main character position, but we don't even see Celes until quite a few hours into the game. Meanwhile, Terra is there from the very beginning.
She's also an amnesiac. That means stuff gets explained to her as if she didn't already know it. It's one of the obligations of a protagonist, unless the writer wants there to be a disconnect between the protagonist and the player - otherwise, we have stuff being told to the protagonist that they understand, but we don't.

Are you sure about that point? I did a CES runthrough where I never even went to Mobliz and I don't recall Terra joining in the final battle. But that was many years ago.the7k wrote:Like I said, even if you ignore her after the destruction and never have her join your party again, she'll force her way back into your party for the final battle. An alternate title considered for the game when they localized it was Mobile Light Force 3.So is it safe for me to assume that one could just slap the name "Charlie's Angels: RPG Edition" and no one else would notice?

I was pretty sure she showed up regardless of whether you got her back in the party or not...
I only played through the game once, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing it in a magazine back in the day. Maybe I am wrong, but I still pretty firmly believe Terra is the main character of FFVI.
I can't seem to find anything saying she does come back, so you might be right. Even so, I don't think anybody would claim that Chrono is not the main character of Chrono Trigger, just because you can finish the game without ever bringing him back to life.
Anyway, on topic... I think the biggest problem with X-2 is that if you liked FFX, the lacking story and strange personality shifts will really jar you. If anything, it'll damage FFX for you. If you didn't like X... well, this game sure as hell won't change your mind.
The combat system was kinda fun, but that's about all it had going for it in my opinion - and it wasn't good enough to overlook all the other problems.

Just to add to The7k's point, I've always felt that the main character in Final Fantasy 6 shifts, depending on what world the player is in. In the first, it's definitely Terra, though I feel Celes becomes the main character in the second, thoguh both are important to the story at any time.

even so the main character remains female
oh and as an extra, FF6's women are actually believable, and consistent with their character.
Unlike 13 where Fang is a man who turned into a woman, Lightning who makes the fastest switch from "roll over and die, I don't give a fuck about you" to JRPG cliche, and Vanille who I'm sure has escaped from a secret lab where they make experiments on people's minds.
