Is Pokemon Blue a Game Boy Color game?

Post by Pichu »

I know Gold/Silver are Game Boy Color games that can be played on a game boy,
but is it the same case for Red/Blue?

Sorry, just confused on the whole matter.

No Blue / Red are normal Gameboy games (That also have custom borders for the Super Gameboy).

Pokémon blue was an original Game Boy game. (Blue came out in September 1998, the GBC came out in November 1998)

They are intended for the original Gameboy, but everyone around me played them on their Gameboy colors through backwards compatibility, which I think might be what you're thinking of.

Blue and Red version had monochrome graphics. You could play them on GBC, but the only "color" added was a slight shade of blue for blue version and a slight shade of red for red version. It was still a black and white game.

Gold and Silver version had color graphics. So trees were green, water was blue, rocks were brown, etc. If you put the cartridge in an original GB, the game was perfectly playable, but in monochrome mode.

I'm pretty sure Pokemon Yellow had some GBC specific features like Pikachu being yellow and a few other color palette additions. It's nothing special though.

Yea pokemon came out right before the gameboy color, so that's probably where the connection comes from. My first gameboy was the color, and the first game I got for it was pokemon.

Another aspect in case you didn't know. GB bonus to N64 Pokemon Stadium. Play HDTV GB Pokemon and extra Pokedex features.
