The Dreamcast was released on 9/9/99. Mine is dated 8/99. It has a solid metal vent shaft and cooling fan. Also, the fan is snug right up against the vents on the side of the machine. It's a work horse!
The 2 port works great with the 2600 adaptor. Couple games don'twork on the 2 port, I believe Mountain King was one of them.
Okay very curious, if okay pics of the actual differences on your Pre-Release Dreamcast?

New member here. I've been a big fan of this site and Racket Boy's articles for a while now and just haven't joined til recently.
On another note. I just ordered the Sega Saturn Modchip and the Dreamcast VGA box and.....WOW...Racket Boy sure knows how to ship fast. I haven't had a chance to get everything up and running yet but will soon enough.
hi, i'm new... i play games. just started to collect stuff, currently i am rockin an xbox, ps2 (w/ some PS1 games too), wii (GC games, VC, and Tenchu-eff yeah), Sega Genesis 3, just got my first Dreamcast a month ago, just scored a N64 a couple weeks ago... doin alright i'd say. I'm way stoked to get me the Racketboy VGA cable for the DC, gonna place a couple orders with the fellas at RetroZone so my VC gaming will be sweeter.
Favorite Series: Tenchu, Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, Resident Evil, Legend of Zelda, Prince of Persia
Other Favorites: ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Tomb Raider(s) (on PS2), Deus Ex: Invisible War, Thief: Deadly shadows

Welcome. Be sure to get the slightly more expensive VGA Box with bypass S-Video out. Not all DC games support VGA.

A fellow 5200 owner! Any rare stuff in there? Mine is the 4 port single cable "✸" version. Accessories include Wico joystick/keypad, 2600 Adapter, Trakball, Twinstik coupler and Pacman 4-way adaptor.
What is unique about the Dreamcast pre-release?
I'll have to go over my collection. Any rarities would just be games themselves. I have the 2 port system. First video game system I ever owned!

Hey, just registered here. Found out about this site through a Talking Classics video. Love those videos and this site seems great.
I've been gaming my whole life and am getting really into collecting now for all systems. Right now I have Playstation, PS2, PSP, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance, DS, DS Lite and the Dreamcast. Planning on getting more retro systems.
Hey looks like i neglected to do this when i registered, oops
I play a lot of old school games. When i was growing up, i was to damn poor for anything but a hand me down NES. Since then, ive collected just about every "basic" system there is, earliest being the nes.
I found this site when a kid down the road was moving and said he had a "sega" for 5 bucks. i figured it was a genesis. nope, was a working sega saturn with virtua cop, virtual fighter, etc. what a steal. i typed in "best sega saturn games of all time" to see what popped up. and here i was. I was extremely psyched to finally rediscover panzer dragoon-a game i played on display on wal-mart quite a bit as a kid but never knew the name of. I had been searching for years to figure it out to no avail.
so anyways, i wont post too often but i read everyday. glad to be part of the community.
Hello to all, I'm a sega/nintendo game collector that was lured by the articles of course. For now I am mainly enthusiastic about my sega consoles but getting a snes/nes would solve that. I mainly lurk and read rather than post.
Just joined because a friend linked me to it. Anyways I'm a member at Gametz.com and nintendoage.com as well so I said why not join here. I might buy or sell to you guys once in a while
