Mapping N64 controller to DS = Pain

Ever since my USB PS2 adapter broke I've been wanting to get a 360 gamepad but last year I opted for this Thrustmaster instead, since I don't play fps using gamepads on the PC, and besides this one has a slightly better dpad. However mapping N64 to a dual shock-type gamepad is a pain, because it seems most games use different controls. The N64 pad was a freak of human-made nature I'm using the NeoRage plugin, which supports rumble nicely. Maybe I should do a separate config for each genre? Anyone else facing this issue?

if the controls are stick and c+ use + and r stick

if it's d+ and c+ use l stick and abxy and the triggers as AB and l stick IN as r trigger?

always map z to stick in or r trigger?

Z should be a trigger, most of the time.

Digital pad.. what is it usually used for? Ditto for the analog and C buttons. Let's suggest schemes for different genres. ie fps, tps, platformer and driving.

For instance in Golden Eye and Perfect Dark: Left analog = Movement, Right analog = look/aim.

Interesting.. Never seen that mod before.

Truth be told the only N64 game I finished was Sin & Punishment. The rest I play for 10-15 minutes before trying something else. I still can't configure Jet Force Gemini to my satisfaction.

Interesting, but not looking to buy a new pad just for N64. It seems I have to do a config for each game.. Wish there's a way to autoload a preset according to ROM title. Perhaps I should contact the author of NeoRage about this.
