There was this retro anime I remember seeing in college that was really good - about a doctor, but not Monster. It had the same look as from the early 90s. I think they had it on Sci-Fi's AniMonday, but I can't find it on this list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sy ... wn_on_Syfy

If I figure it out, I'll let you know. I can't remember much about it because I only saw a very little bit of it, but it looked interesting.

It was called Black Jack and was a one shot hour long OVA form '98-'99 if I remember correctly.

The manga and stuff is hugely popular in Japan to the extent of Conan (Case Closed) if I recall correctly. There's also a new Anime series of Black Jack that started running a while back in Japan too.

Mecha- Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Macross: Do You Remember Love?, Patlabor, Armored Trooper Votoms, RahXephon, Eureka Seven, Macross Frontier, Simoun, Mazinger Z, Gao Gai Gar.

Great older classic Anima movie!
Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? (Japanese version)

Seen Macross Robotech U.S. dubs, pretty good. Have Japanese Laser Disc Macross the Movie, can barely understand the Kanji but animation, sounds and music far exceeds the Robotech TV series. I personally rate this better then Akira.

I'd like stuff that has violence and explosions AND has the full gamut of colors and puts a smile on my face. I don't THINK that's asking for too much, but apparently it is.

Surely you must love One Piece, then.

One Piece is both goofy and serious at the same time, but it's gotten a bit darker as of recently. Also, OP is anything but Episodic, which is another thing 7k mentioned.

EDIT: Slayers. All of it. Watch.

I'd say one piece is pretty episodic, it's just the way the author manages to intertwine everything in a significant way that makes it seem more cohesive than the show might initally let on.

Oh, and I second slayers, and raise you a dragon half (if no one already mentioned it)

Thanks for all the recommendations. The Macross timeline is most confusing, but since I've had a large dose of the original series I'll leave it there for the time being.

Only Space Opera in the vein of Harlock I can think of is Space Adventure Cobra, but I'd also try Planetes for a more realistic space series.

What about Golgo 13? Is it good? Also, what about the 'versus' superrobot movies? Grendizer vs Mazinger and the like? Or are those just fan service?

To avoid starting a new topic, let's discuss games based on manga/anime. It seems most of those are in Japanese, which is unfortunate.

There was Akira for the Amiga, but it was terrible.

The Berserk games for the PS2 and DC. Some of the best comic adaptations ever.

There's a ton of Gundam titles, but I'm not particularly fond of any of them. What else is there? Has Neon Genesis Evangelion ever got a game in English? Fan translations?

Was the Berserk game good? I've never really taken an in-depth look at it.

They're no GOW, but if you enjoyed the manga you'll enjoy the games. The PS2 game is in Japanese however.

So no Eva games in English? What about the Ghost in the Shell games?

Berserk for DC came to America way before the anime and manga did. Despite not even knowing it was based on another property, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Back then. It's kinda lacking these days.

However, the PS2 version is superior to it in every way and then some. One of my favorite PS2 games out there.

There was a Evangelion typing game for DC, and several typing and dating sim type games for pc. I tried the DC game, but not know any Japanese it was totally unplayable. It really didn't look that good anyways, actually none of the Eva games I've looked at seemed very good.

Posted this on another thread somewhere, Ghost in the Shell for PS1. Just like a lot of Anime, the way you can strafe and hop up sides of buildings.
