Fatal Fury 3 and Fatal Fury Real Bout Special were the only good games on both compilations in my opinion.
As for the difficulty on the SNK comps for PS2, I thought that Art of Fighting and Art of Fighting 2 on the Art of Fighting Anthology disc were fucking ridiculous. Even on the Easiest setting these games are tough as shit. Can barely get past the second guy on both games.

I've nothing more to add to what some of the folks have already said, but I'm not a big fan of the multi-lane fighters. Something about it just doesn't feel right to me, so I've never really given the Fatal Fury games their due on my Super Nintendo.

The snes version doesn't have the multi-lane system, now you have no excuse. at least the 1st one not sure about the others.Ack wrote:I've nothing more to add to what some of the folks have already said, but I'm not a big fan of the multi-lane fighters. Man, I'd hate the think about fighting Geese on one plain. That plain manipulation was the only way I could beat him.
Also, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special: Dominated Mind on the PS1 is a single-plain fighter. PS1 just wasn't powerful enough to handle two plains, but it's still a great game - one of the best fighters on the PS1. Never came to America - I played it by buying it off the Japanese PSN on the PS3.

2 and Special did. I liked how it got simplified to quick side-steps/dashes and such in 3 and onwards.pepharytheworm wrote:The snes version doesn't have the multi-lane system, now you have no excuse. at least the 1st one not sure about the others.Ack wrote:I've nothing more to add to what some of the folks have already said, but I'm not a big fan of the multi-lane fighters. Re: Three Questions about Fatal Fury difficulty
And if I'm going to play a SNES Fatal Fury, I tend to go with Specail because of the large character roster. Fatal Fury limits you to only a handful of playable characters.
Re: Three Questions about Fatal Fury difficulty
Fatal Fury games are hard. A couple of months ago I posted a topic complaining about my having my ass kicked in Real Bout 2. And I'm not really that shoddy at fighters.

Thanks for all the replies so far...but I'm still not sure I have an answer to my main question. Can anyone confirm if the unresponsive special moves are a fault of the collection, or inherit in the arcade/MVS version of the original game? Surely someone has both...

Re: Three Questions about Fatal Fury difficulty
I did answer. I told you the only fault I experienced has more to do with the PS2 D-pad than the game. While I don't have the AES/MVS version noone has ever said that the neo geo cd versions play any different.dsheinem wrote:Thanks for all the replies so far...but I'm still not sure I have an answer to my main question. Re: Three Questions about Fatal Fury difficulty
Sorry, but your response didn't actually answer my question as the difficulty I've had isn't just with the D-Pad, but with the analogue or any fightstick I've used. The game has also been noted in reviews to have unresponsive special moves - but none explain if this is a fault of the compilation or the original game itself. It;d be nice to know if someone has use more or less the same quality controller on both an MVS version and the PS2, and can speak a bit more to the variance (if any) in executing the special moves.pepharytheworm wrote:I did answer.
