Oh in that case hit the Pro Logic button on your receiver because I know for a fact that Sonic 3, Rocket Knight Adventures and I believe Vectorman as well were all encoded in Dolby Surround, now known as Dolby Pro Logic.

It was insanely cool when I heard rings plinging in the rear speakers right behind my head and explosions and sound effects in rocket knight bouncing across the room. Seriously an awesome experience.
Pro Logic in Genesis games? I never heard that before.

Me neither. I thought only a handful of SNES games had that feature (Two that I know of were Jurassic Park and Super Turrican). However Dolby decoders are supposed to work on all stereo signals. I use ffdshow to watch movies this way, it redirects the speech to the central channel and extrapolates rear audio accordingly.

Hey Mod Man, can you cite a source for info on Genesis games in Pro Logic? I might just have to invest in a Pro Logic receiver if I can play Sonic 3 & Knuckles in surround.

I honestly can't site a source other than my ears and my sound system. In all my other sonic games rings come out of the main front and center channels when I enter pro-logic mode basically making the rears useless but with these games it sound crisp clear and room filling with multiple effects and even certain channels of music playing exclusively from the rear only.

I'm guessing it's one of those nice hidden features in some games, like how Virtua Fighter on the 32X had a widescreen mode 15 years before 16:9 displays would become common place.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

That's an amazing discovery. Please test out Sonic and Knuckles, and test out Sonic CD too. Those two games have the best music in my opinion. I know Sonic CD is supposed to have "Q sound" whatever the hell that is.

Q-Sound is interpreted as Pro-Logic in every game I've played that has it, lots of my PS1 fighters have awesome spacial effects and Sonic CD sounded just plain freaking cool.

I didn't know a Pro Logic decoder could make use of Qsound. That's great for Sonic CD; what about Sonic and Knuckles? Does it have Pro Logic channels too?

Yup, Sonic & Knuckles uses the same sound engine as Sonic 3 with a few differences here and there but still sounds just as cool in Pro Logic

I checked, and it is real stereo.
