HATE HATE HATE!!!!skate323k137 wrote:Got a couple of things, first was a small screen that attaches to the top of an old PS2. It was only $20 at gamestop, they had pulled it out of the back from years ago to take up space on an empty shelf. I use it to operate ulaunchelf/hdloader on my VGA ps2, and do things like select cars in GT4 (as the menus are stuck in 480i)
I used to use a 17 inch viewsonic for this setup, and had composite video ran to the nearest television for operating hdloader, and enabling progressive scan mode. Kinda a pain. Finding this little ps2 screen made my life much easier.
however the BEST find, was a FREE 21 inch "dell" (Sony) Trinitron flat screen CRT monitor with two VGA inputs, and Sync-on-green support for my ps2. These pictures don't come close to doing justice to this monitor. It's the sickest CRT I've ever owned, super bright, one touch auto image size adjustment. I just sent out an email at work asking if any folks were stashing CRT monitors after upgrading to flat panels. I got several e-mails, and got this and a 19 inch hitachi for free.
Model no of that CRT and instructions on how to make or get that PS2 VGA cable please!

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
It's a Dell Ultrascan p1110. Like i said before, it's a trinitron in a dell box. so tasty.
It's sad that you can't strip the composite sync for "normal" vga, because the ps2 shuts off composite video when outputting in progressive mode. This makes a SOG monitor necessary unless you want to wire in a sync seperator and risk jacking your color levels.
Because of that, the VGA adapter itself is simple, you just need three RCA Jacks, and a female mini db-15. it uses a normal component cord for the ps2, just set the system settings from YPbPr to RGB. The trick is, the monitor has to have Sync on Green support. ( see http://playstation2-linux.com/sog.php ). For the adapter, it was a while ago when I made it, but I'm pretty certain it's pins 1, 2, and 3 for RGB (Respectively), and the three pins directly under them are their respective grounds. Wire these to your female RCA jacks and label them. For this to be really "functional" you do need a nearby TV or a little screen like the one I found. There is a gamestop cable that has both component and composite out, that's what you need (it has plugs for ps2, and what looks like both xboxes). Use the TV or extra screen to load your game (holding X and triangle usually) and enable progressive scan. The monitor will jump to life.
My original thread on this is http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 22&t=11448 and there are pictures of nights running on the viewsonic. You can solder, right? if not I can make and mail you one if you really want it.
There are only a handfull of games that work. they have to have 480p mode. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pl ... HD_support
the ones that really stand out as downright impressive are
Guilty Gear xx accent core plus (import)
Nights (import)
Soul Calibur 2 and 3
Tekken 5 (supposedly 525p or something like that)
Thunder force VI (oh yeah)
SSX3
Gran Turismo 4
(Alien Hominid isn't too bad at all either)

I am using this exact same monitor right this minute, and have been for a couple of years. It is a thing of beauty.skate323k137 wrote:It's a Dell Ultrascan p1110. Like i said before, it's a trinitron in a dell box. so tasty.
Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
Blockbuster is having a B1G1 on any games $15 and under. I was hoping to find Virtua Tennis 3, but I still got a pretty good deal.
Condemned 2: Bloodshot (PS3)
Sega Superstars Tennis (PS3)
Got them both for $7.

Got an AV Connection Cable for the PS1 from FYE. Sony brand and still sealed. I don't have a PS1 anymore but for $2 I figure this isn't something I'll find everyday and it's an interesting item.
I also went to the Gamestop in the Mall of America (was at a conference in area today) and went to buy Golden Sun from their GBA case. I've been looking for this game for a long time now since I regret selling mine a few years ago; STUPID!!! Anyways, she tells me she can't find the keys and she proceeds to call people. Another employer took them and was in Chicago so the Assistant Manager had to come back in. I left and came back over a 1/2 hour later. I asked for a discount on top of my 10% for having to be inconvenienced. He said he couldn't but he did end up giving me a few bonus items for my time and patience.
I had my two girls with me (7 & 3) and he ended up giving me an issue of last month's Game Informer and an extra copy of this month. They'll go in my classroom. He also gave my daughter the Pokemon Gold Ho-Oh preorder bonus (she loves Pokemon) and my youngest got the stylus pre-order that came with Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics.
Needless to say, I was very pleased with the customer service of both him and the other person working there; very cute though a little too young for me. They both solved the problem and even if I had to wait a bit they were very professional. Not something I see at those stores often.
In review,
Sony brand Factory Sealed PS1 AV Connection Cable - $2
Golden Sun - $7.50
2 issues of Game Informer - Free
Ho-Oh Pokemon Gold Pre-Order bonus - Free
3-pack of Mario/Sonic Stylus' - Free

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
Thank you very much for that list, apparently my own Dell/Sony Trinitron P780 supports Sync on Green! Anyhow, I really really want an adapter, but I really don't need it and I'm in full money hoarding mode at the moment to save up cash for my biggest con trip of the year.skate323k137 wrote:It's a Dell Ultrascan p1110. Ha. I just had to add that I also went to MOA yesterday (Friday) and checked out Hi-Score Games, both Gamestop's, and Fye. I didn't find any buried treasures though.jmbarnes101 wrote:Got an AV Connection Cable for the PS1 from FYE. Sony brand and still sealed. Oh, and I do recall the cute [blonde] girl that you mentioned. She was definitely a lil' cutie. Nice rack, too
