what xbox 360 games are best online?

Today I got round to joining xbox live only played halo 3 so far.This is the first time I have played online since my counter strike days about 5-10 years ago.what are your fav xbox live games?

I would like to play Toy Soldiers multiplayer but I haven't yet.

i would suggest gears of war 2 (the multiplayer is pretty broken but getting in a good game of horde is always fun)

l4d1 and 2 are pretty fun, but i would only suggest doing versus mode with a team of friends (though it's not too hard making online friends that are decent) but random players in campaign should provide a fun experience

TF2 was fun at launch but the lack of new content made it get stale after 2.5 years and all the players on 360 are pretty damn good now so it may be hard for new players to squeexe their way in

that's all i can think of now, besides a few co-op arcade titles (Metal Slug 3 FTW)

aw man how could i forget the new AvP game? I never bought it myself, it's pretty mediocre, but honestly i had a blast with the multiplayer.

also RE5 was a million times better with a human partner, if you're going to play that game, i'd suggest doing it over XBL. Besides the gold edition just came out, so if you haven't played the game I'd wait for the gold edition to drop to $40 and than snatch it up. It's already got 1600MS points worth of content, though that content isn't worth that cost, which is why i say wait for it to drop to $40

Some of my favorite Xbox 360 online games:

-Halo 3
-Lost Planet
-Gears of War 2(horde multiplayer mode is really fun)
-Team Fortress 2(also on PC)
-Left 4 Dead (fun versus mode with friends)
-Splinter Cell: Conviction (co-op story mode and hunter mode)

Also, there are a good amount of XBLA games with co-op modes like Metal Slug 3, Final Fight Double Impact.

I'm pretty new to XBL (despite having one in the house for the past three years) and don't have many games, but Call of Duty 4 online is great.

Halo Reach, Gears Of War, Wartech, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Conviction, Lost Planet 2, Resident Evil 5, EDF: Insect Armageddon and the COD games are great choices for online gameplay. You can get most games for dirt cheap too .
