Donkey Kong Country 3 keeps erasing my files...

Post by JokermanJohnny »

A few years ago, I noticed that my copy of Donkey Kong Country 3 kept erasing my files for some odd reason. Since I had no clue how to take good care of my stuff back then, I just simply stuffed it somewhere in the corners of the house and hoped that the solution would come eventually. Now years later, I gave the game a good cleaning, only to find no dirt, the game runs perfectly, and when I came back to play it, the file I had was gone.

Could it be that there's an internal battery that needs to be replaced or is the cartridge itself going bad?

Internal battery needs to be replaced, get a gamebit screwdriver and replace it, problem will be solved.

CR2032 is the battery you need. You can even by them with the tabs so that you don't have to use the 'tape' method (which is what you'll find in a lot of guides if you google for it). Or you can get a battery holder (very cheap - especially if you take one off an old dead motherboard). If you can find a holder slim enough, you can solder it onto the board. If you can't, you can just wire it in and put the holder in the top part of the cart (there will be enough room to fit it above the PCB).

If you have a volt meter on hand, it'd be worth checking the old battery just to be sure the problem isn't something else. If you don't have a volt meter, don't sweat it, more than 99.9% chance it is the battery.

Donkey Kong does that on purpose because you took forever to play around with DKC.
