What Japanese Neo Geo MVS game is/was this?

Post by sharp3D »

I found a guy on craigslist selling a MVS copy of one of the more popular shooters on the Neo Geo, Blazing Star. Finally got it in the mail yesterday and once I got to take a look at it, I noticed that the label on the cart was not official. I pealed back the label as gingerly as possible to reveal the original label, which is in Japanese.

So I want to find out if the cart is in fact an original Blazing Star cart. Perhaps an operator put an English label on it or..... its a boot? If I can find out what the Japanese is we will know the answer.

The game plays perfectly. I did notice some weird crackling on my center channel speaker, but thats probably because the game isn't meant to be surround and/or because I am playing it on my AES with a converter.

Maybe I am wrong but isn't Blazing Star worth less the Samurai Spirits IV, why repro it?
Then again I am not up to date on MVS prices.

Thanks Inazuma!

pepharytheworm - I looked up the prices

Samurai Shodown IV $15-60
Blazing Star $55-75

I paid $50 so thats not so bad.

Now I am wondering how this cart is configured. Did they take the chips from a Blazing Star AES/MVS cart and put it on a SS IV board or did they take BS chips and board and put it in SS IV case? Is there anyway to tell you think?

Yeah I stumbled on this link a couple months ago. Knew coming to you guys would be faster than tracking it down myself. ;)

Though the site is cool, other than reference it doesn't serve much purpose. I want to reprint a better blazing star label now, but the images are such low resolution. Once you click on a game you should be presented with an almost 1:1 size image or at least a link to DL a hi-res one.

Bootleggers use the case and original PCB board and replace the chips with burned IC's (ROMs). It's kinda like robbing Peter to pay Paul, we lose one SS4 to get a Blazing Star. BTW, my BS is the same as with about 3-4 others MVS carts. It may not be worth much to collectors but it plays the same.
