A bit of info on the complications of making games region-free;
GaijinPunch reported over at Cave-STG http://www.cave-stg.com/forum/index.php?topic=631.100 (post #122) after talking to Asada directly that "There is apparently far more work than flipping a flag to make a game region free. It has to be approved in every region it plays in, so there is not only money to think about, but unfortnately resources to deal w/ the same process 5 times."
Freaking awesome to see the port is still coming and that Cave are now helping with the development, hopefully like Mushi it'll be region-free so guys without a JP 360 can enjoy this & Espgaluda II :)

I don't understand why it costs Cave money to make something region free. If their target audience is Japan, then they should meet the region requirements there, and treat the rest as "grey importers" who have to deal with their own local legislation.

I mean, if a Japanese author pens a book, they don't have to make sure it's valid to be published in every country. Likewise with online videos. Why are video games any different?

Or is it just Microsoft being a pain in the butt. Do PS3 game devs and publishers have to go through that nonsense?

From the sounds of it, it's basically all down to Microsoft's ass-backwards requirements - it takes time and money to submit a game to Microsoft for approval and the way MS have it set up means that Cave would have to submit the game to every MS division just to release the game in Japan as region free. Other than Mushi the only other region free game in Japan is Gears of War 2 and that was because it was a MS published game already approved in other regions.

Sony have got the right idea, if you want to sell a game in a certain region it will need to be approved by that regions Sony division, but if you want to release the game as region free in Japan only then it only needs to be submitted to SCEJ. Makes alot more sense.

Here's a new trailer;

Can't freaking wait, and i'm glad i've got a JP360 as it looks like ESPgaluda II will be the last region free port. I spent a ton of time playing the DS Death Label version of Ketsui, even if it is just boss rush, can't wait to finally play the levels.
