My sega cd is broken fix me
My sega cd is broken fix me
I read the discussion on fuses for a broken sega cd and that might be the problem with mine unfortunately. Before I try and fix this I need to know something else. I have one power supply the one that fits in the sega genesis model 2 its an official power supply. Its a 10 volt but it wont fit into the back of the system I had another one that was non-official but the cord wiggled and it didnt put out any juice so I discarded it. I belive it was a 9 volt but im not positive does it matter what the voltage is. What could my problem be I can post pictures of the insides if needed.
Re: My sega cd is broken fix me
The Sega CD uses the same power supply as a model 1 genesis. Use an official power supply if at all possible. I don't remember the specs off the top of my head, but IIRC it is a 9V. Voltage matters, and so does polarity. Just save yourself the headache and get an official power supply.

Okay so it takes a 9 volt to power the CD and a model 2 Genesis uses a 10v ?

Re: My sega cd is broken fix me
I have it working I found an old 9V supply from like a cell phone and rewired the power supply to the tip of my old dead sega cd supply. Now it works but I cant get it to read a CD fuck my life!

if you are going to experiment with power adapters, it's more important to match the current (amps) than the Voltage.
You have a little play with the voltage number, but you can do some serious damage if the current is off.

Make sure amp output is higher not lower then the original transformer, see my previous reply link.sneth wrote:if you are going to experiment with power adapters, it's more important to match the current (amps) than the Voltage.

Yeah I think I just dont have enough to spin the disk fast enough maybe?sneth wrote:if you are going to experiment with power adapters, it's more important to match the current (amps) than the Voltage.

Re: My sega cd is broken fix me
I'm pretty sure a power supply will only supply as much power as the load needs. The amperage on a power supply indicates how much power it *can* deliver, not how much it *will* deliver. So it's only necessary to ensure that your power supply can deliver enough power, too much is not a problem. The official power supply delivers 1.1A, so aim for at least that.
