I guess that is like their retirement fund, because they can sell the games when they are old, and have a crap-ton of money. Nobody that serious has any extra money laying around either!final fight cd wrote:whether you like the idea of sealed games or not, you have to admire the patience, dedication, time, devotion, money, etc that goes into some of those collections.
the person with virtually every sealed nes title didn't start collecting yesterday. i am sure he has put around 20 years or so into what he loves, not to mention the thousands of dollars he has put into it.

I'll never understand people's desire to spend highway robbery prices on sealed games, just so they can sit an a room somewhere and collect dust. Most classic titles are getting pricey enough as it is. Last time i checked games were bought to be played. and that grading service/slabbing nonsense looks pretty retarded.

wow, i was WAAYYY off. in another thread it was stated that it took the collector ONLY 5 years to amass close to a full sealed NES set. CRAZINESS.final fight cd wrote:whether you like the idea of sealed games or not, you have to admire the patience, dedication, time, devotion, money, etc that goes into some of those collections.

somebody else said he accumulated over 600 boxed nes games ONE YEAR!!
just like how some of you think collecting sealed games is stupid, i think collecting 600+ boxed nes games in a year is stupid. for me, half the fun is finding my stuff in the wild. nothing beats the feeling of walking into a store, not knowing what you'll find, and BAM!!! you see a game you have been wanting.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Isn't the whole point of video games to play them? Not put them under plastic unplayable just so you can show off. Now
Report this post collecting game is a hobby of mine, I like it because it gives you something to do and you enjoy yourself when you play them, buying a game just to own it and show off, it's pointless, I bought earthbound not because it's rare and to be a show off, but because I knew I would have a great time playing it!

everybody likes retro games for different reasons. i personally like the "collecting" aspect more than actually playing the game. i have TONES of sega games that i will never play and only bought because the cart came with the box.XxBroBuzzxX wrote:Isn't the whole point of video games to play them? I think sealed games have "value" in that they can provide us with nostalgia. I remember as a kid I would go to Toys R Us and bring them one of those game "tickets" they'd have out. I'd look in their secret closed off area and see hundreds and hundreds of sealed NES games. Someone should use all these games to remake a 1980s Toys R Us where you can only go and look. Other than something like that though, I personally would never keep any sealed games.

If they like it I am not going to tel them to stop liking it. It's not illegal, and they like it. I see nothing wrong.
Also the train example is pretty absurd. You have strictly better models for less now if you want to play.
