I just got done watching the movie The Last Broadcast, precursor to Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity styled movies, it was very good, the start was kinda slow, and a lot of unneeded scenes, but that is expected from such a low budget movie

I just saw ponyo too, it was really cute and had some nice character development.
Still though, am I the only one who thought the ending might have been a little....abrupt?
I actually LOVED the setting (like the environment and world it was in, wish I lived there...) and the animations of the movie but thought the character development along with the plot was very weak compared to his other movies.

It's always been my contention that Spirited Away was Studio Ghibli's last great production. It even appealed to a broad audience and proved how animation can be as worthy a medium as traditional film, something which Hollywood is still "struggling" to understand.

Hopefully they'll surprise us with another classic someday.

In the past few days go through

Whale Rider- Everyone rants and raves about this inspirational classic, I just could not get into it-kinda boring, but great acting

Devil's Backbone- really cool Guillermo Del Toro flick, not too scary, but visually great, and amazing acting on behalf of the kids in the movie

On the Waterfront- can't really say enough about how great this Brando classic is...watch it

Odd, I just rewatched Dark Crystal a few weeks ago with my little brother (who has been reading up on Jim Henson and Puppetry in general). The Dark Crystal is really the magnum opus of puppetry films. It is simply incredible when you think about it. Damn near everything was a puppet. I believe it is still the only live action feature film that has no visible humans.

Ironically I met the girl who is drawing the official manga prequels last year and will probably run into her again in a couple weeks - thanks to convention season starting back up.

I recently watched Fanboys, which is a movie about some Star Wars fans that decide they are going to break into Lucas Ranch to watch Episode 1 before it is released. There are some corny jokes, but overall the movie was pretty funny and enjoyable. What made it especially fun was finding out just how big of a Star Wars geek my wife is. She's a little closeted about it, but she laughed hysterically at all the little in jokes. She understood more of the references than I did, and I'm a pretty big geek. Definitely a fun nerd-out moment with my lady.

Saw clash of the titans 3d this weekend. The movie itself was meh, some neat effects but nothing groundbreaking. I think I am officially done with 3D, after being underwhelmed by it and later finding out it was a post-production sort of effect added in.
