The problem I had with my model 1 Sega Genesis not working properly on my 2004, 51" Toshiba tv has been somewhat resolved well enough. The system still doesn't work, but the Sega-licensed Firecore works excellently. The two cartridges I have ("Warsong" and "Might & Magic") look and sound awesome and have no gameplay issues.
So if anyone ever has the same problem I had with an older Sega not working well on a newer tv, the Firecore is definitely a viable option. There are reports of the odd compatibility issue, so when I come across any cartridges that do not work well (or at all) on the Firecore I'll let everyone know. Perhaps a compatibility list can be compiled down the road much like we see them for the Retro Duo system.
And as expected, a Dreamcast system I picked up on the weekend works perfectly on my tv.
Thanks again for the help everyone.

I can't stand the Firecore, the sound and graphics are just so glitchy when compared to the real thing.

If your TV has a VGA input, a Dreamcast VGA box with S-Video bypass is a good deal. Most Dreamcast games support VGA 640x480 resolution. Just make sure your TV can support that lower resolution. DC games that don't work with VGA can be bypassed with the VGA box to S-Video.
