for the longest time i was strictly a final fight, streets of rage guy. i didn't own the sequels, i never played the sequels. and when comparing the two originals i thought streets of rage was so inferior to final fight that it was funny. in fact, i had no idea how anybody could even compare the two, let alone argue that streets of rage was better than final fight.
i was a bit premature on this thinking, as i later acquired streets of rage 2 and learned first hand what all the fuss was about. its been a while since i have played it, but i remember it played pretty much similar to final fight cd if not better.
and i recently picked up steets of rage 3. it is dabomb.com, and i am probably in the minority when i say it is hands down better than streets or rage 2. i just love the "deeper" game play and level design.
i have yet to play final fight 2 or 3, as i have yet to find these in the wild. but how does final fight 2 and 3 compare to streets of rage 2 and 3? what does everybody think is the better series?
edit: for those of you who live near The Exchange stores cib copies for SOR3 are going for 20 dollars, assuming that all stores mark all inventory identically.

Streets of Rage series ROCKS!! I got Street of Rage 2 with my sega genesis bundle. The music and gameplay is awesome.
A commercial for streets of Rage 2 for the Sega genesis. I still have it in good condition and not for Resale.

Re: final fight series vs streets of rage series
Streets of Rage 2 and Final Fight 3 are the best of both, from what I hear. I never got to play FF3 either, but I loved what I saw of it.
I think I do prefer Final Fight myself, as I love Haggar. Haggar is the epitome of manliness. I would have his man-babies. Streets of Rage is still great, but none of the characters seem to have as much charisma as Haggar.
Actually, I like many of FFs characters over SORs. Damnd, Sodom, Rolento, Hugo, Poison, Two P, Maki, Carlos, and Lucia were all characters I really liked.

Re: final fight series vs streets of rage series
Unfortunately, my experience with Final Fight is limited to a few minutes with FFCD, so I can't directly compare the two series, but I love Streets of Rage, so it probably wouldn't matter anyway.
I completely agree with this. The flack this game gets is completely baffling. I'll concede that the musical compositions aren't as good and that the story is pretty silly, but it plays fantastically. I fail to see how anyone bashing the gameplay of SoR3 has a leg to stand on.
Basically, I prefer the aesthetics (atmosphere and music) of the original but the gameplay of SoR3. SoR2 is like a nice happy medium between the two, although it still bugs me to this day that you're "locked" in place for a second or so after attacking an enemy.
And yes, I realize this answers none of your questions.

I loved the SOR games. I think Final Fight looks good, but I don't really enjoy playing it that much. In fact, if you wanna talk gamer minorities, I prefer Mighty Final Fight over Final Fight!
Re: final fight series vs streets of rage series
I actually agree noiseredux. I've been playing a lot of mighty final fight on nesDS. Great stuff. To bad there's no 2 player mode.

Re: final fight series vs streets of rage series
Streets of Rage is the better series, but it was basically created as a Final Fight ripoff. So the irony is, if you love Streets of Rage, you should love Final Fight too just out of respect. There would be no SOR without Final Fight
As for the best installments, Final Fight 3 and Bare Knuckle 3(yes, I said Bare Knuckle 3, NOT Streets of Rage 3). Musically though, the original Streets of Rage is the best of the series. I don't care what anyone says, it had a better soundtrack than Streets of Rage 2
Funny thing to me though is that in the realm of beat'em ups, there is nothing special about either series. Sure, they are "classic" and Final Fight paved the way for many beat'em ups to follow due to its popularity, and the music for the Streets of Rage series is legendary, but beyond that, both series have been outclassed by SO many beat'em ups that have come out since then. There are tons of beat'em ups that are FAR better than any Final Fight or Streets of Rage game. I don't know why people still talk about both series like they are still all that. The Streets of Rage series in particular is MASSIVELY overrated.
