The Best 2D Playstation 2 Games

If we're okay with 3-d graphics, then I'd echo someone else who mentioned the good Contra game. That would be Shattered Soldier, which looks absolutely awesome from videos I've seen.

Shattered Soldier is a definite for anyone who likes old Contra games. Hard Corps on Genny is a LOT harder, but I'd put its difficulty on par with that of Alien Wars (well actually it's basically Alien Wars retold with a few changes done to it). With enough patience and a weeks time I was able to blow this game out of the water with perfect S's on every level

You should add Raiden (5?) for the ps2 although honestly ive only played it on a PC. it was only released in japan for the ps2 i think.
