So I figured, i would see if this game lives upto the hype. So I put my $12 down for a download of this game. I must have 3 or 4 hours into playing this game. I haven't beaten it yet. My plan is to keep trying to though. I like the gameplay aspects of the game! I am using the Gamecube controller which works okay. I heard the "classic" might be better, but I dont plan on getting one yet.
Also I found the voice acting to be just terrible! I have never owned a N64, I found some of the graphics in this game are weird. I also like games with good stories. This game I have a really hard time following any such story at all. I read up the background story, but when playing the game and trying to follow it. It just doesn't make alot of sense. While I guess this sounds a bit negative, but overall it is a neat game, cause I enjoy shmups that are "different" such as this and REZ, Ikaruga and Panzer Dragoon (all of them).
I plan on getting Sin and Punishment 2 for the Wii also. Looks just be just awesome, especially with the wii controls.
Sin and Punishment Wii VC download
Re: Sin and Punishment Wii VC download
I picked this up on the VC recently as well and had a lot of fun with it so far. I only played it for about a half hour when I first got it, and didn't bother to read the manual. I just kind of tried to learn the controls on my own and ended up getting killed by a wolf-looking boss. I couldn't figure out his weakness, but then again I only tried to fight him once.
Any game that plays like Rez and Panzer Dragoon are great in my book!

Curious, I have the N64 version, anyone have both? A comparison?

I almost forgot to mention. Did it live upto the hype. mmmmmmm I dont think so, but its still a pretty descent game... I would probably still get it again. But i dont think I would waste the money for the import N64 cart. If im not mistaken isnt' it running about $40+

Re: Sin and Punishment Wii VC download
This game most definitely did live up to the hype!
Here's my number one tip for the newbie S&P player.
Put the controller mode into type three in the controls option menu. This allows you to simply use L & R to move left and right, and simplifies game play IMMENSELY. Once you're in this control mode the game becomes smooth as silk after a few minutes getting the hang of it.
Also, the plot as quoted from wikipedia is basically this:

Also, the plot as quoted from wikipedia is basically this:
Wikipedia wrote:Mankind's prosperity has led to a vast population increase and serious food shortages. In an attempt to solve the food shortage problem, scientists create a new species to use for food, and place the herd in northern Japan. In time, the creatures mutate and attack the people of Japan. An international peacekeeping organization called the Armed Volunteers tries to stop the creatures, now referred to as "ruffians", but they also oppress the Japanese.
Another group, referring to itself as the Savior Group and led by a mysterious woman named Achi, rises up to defend Japan against the ruffians and Armed Volunteers.
The game begins in Tokyo with Achi, Airan, and Saki embarking on a mission to steal an Armed Volunteer transport. After fighting through waves of Volunteer troops, they gain a transport on top of a building, but as they do, they are attacked by ruffians. After fending them off, Saki is attacked by a telekinetic woman named Kachua. Saki knocks her off the building. As she falls, the city is flooded with blood, and Saki falls as well. He and Kachua are transformed into giant ruffians as they fall. Saki kills Kachua, then turns on Airan and Achi. Achi teleports herself and Airan to safety.
They find themselves on a Volunteer ship, commanded by Brad, leader of the Armed Volunteers. Brad commands the fleet to attack Saki, referring to him as The Beast. Airan and Achi fight their way through the ship until they encounter Brad and Leda, a smaller cat-like Ruffian. After a brief fight, Leda is killed, but Brad jumps on a fighter jet and escapes, then Achi uses her telekinesis to help Airan pursue him. In the end, they kill Brad and wipe out the Volunteer fleet, allowing them to focus on Saki.
Achi believes that she can return Saki to his human form, but she requires that Airan shoot him in the head to incapacitate him. After she angrily refuses, Achi creates an illusion of Airan on a ruffian-infested train, tricking Airan into shooting Saki. They are able to communicate with Saki, but then Achi reveals that the war with the ruffians and the Armed Volunteers is merely training for her coming global war. As Achi becomes more and more menacing, Saki regains consciousness and teleports himself and Airan away.
Airan wakes up on a ruffian-infested beach accompanied by Saki, who is now half ruffian, but otherwise back to normal. They fight their way to the safety of a small building; once there, Achi appears, takes Airan, and flees. When Saki catches up to Achi, Achi asks him to help her take over the world. He refuses, and Achi tries to destroy the Earth. Saki transforms back into a giant ruffian and, with the help of Airan, stops Achi once and for all.

Wait until he turns a brownish color soot at him, then run up and hit him with your gun-sword. When he's bluish-gray he's untouchable, so just jump over his attacks and wait for the color change.jfe2 wrote:I picked this up on the VC recently as well and had a lot of fun with it so far. To defeat him just knock him off the side of the roof two or three times.

Re: Sin and Punishment Wii VC download
I do.CRTGAMER wrote:Curious, I have the N64 version, anyone have both? A comparison?
The Wii version's visuals are slightly clearer thanks to the 480p and fog filter free N64 emulation on the VC, but the game also shows it's age a bit more thanks to the loss of most of the N64's hardware based smoothing, texture dithering and natural AA/AF. Sounds have a lot of pop but fizzle and drown out faster and grainier than in the original version with an underlying mask of static fuzz present in the audio that can get a little annoying and irritated the crap out of me at first. Control and feel of the game is thrown off some bit from the original version thanks to the Classic controller's lack of grips or rumble which the N64 version used to great effect. Using the Gamecube controller is an extreme improvement over the Classic Controller, but still pales to the original N64 Pad in the end.
The N64 version has a few seconds of slowdown in the Stage 2 act, but that can be easily remedied by turning on the frame skip in the options menu. The slight fog present in the majority of all N64 titles is mostly gone but a slight ribbing of fog in the image does become apparent at times here and there when in stages with insane amounts of stuff going on. When displayed through an S-Video cable this can be easily ignored given how sharp and slick the rest of the game is. The sound is clearer with less grain and higher bass on the N64 than in gritty choppiness of the VC version's sound. Control-wise this game is designed around the N64 controller and it shows with me repeatedly scoring higher on the N64 version when compared to it's VC counterpart.

Re: Sin and Punishment Wii VC download
Definitely try it on Type three, it makes moving/dashing/strafing left and right a charm by just having to wither double tap or hold down L&R in the direction you want to go. It also makes shoot and jump B and A respectively and Y becoming your Lock-On or Manual-aim select button.env963 wrote:Ive been playing with type 2 controls so far. Ill try type 3 tonight.
You're going to want to get good with manual aim too, the game is literally impossible to beat without it thanks to the one stage where you're chasing and firing down a giant bullet with only 45 seconds to do so before you die. Since Lock-on shots are 2-3 times weaker than Manual-aim bullets you'll need to use the Manual-aim to defeat it.

Re: Sin and Punishment Wii VC download
Thanks Mod_man, this go around feel better I got the Import. Love Sin Punishment, a great semi-rail shooter. I was dejected that the 360 HD game REZ improved over Import Dreamcast version. Not a 360 owner, still like the DC one with the Mad Katz lightup vibrator pac.
