gross sure, but all the TREASURES!
a couple of pieces of advice;

wear gloves; preferably rather thick
wear old clothes (as in clothes you don't mind getting dirty)
preferably with something underneath them

the *main* reason(s) for this, is due to the fact that there *may* be other things in dumpsters, then just furniture/computers/food

in Stockholm, there are many syringes laying around, add to that broken glass, etc.
better be safe than sorry

I've had battery-acid spilled over my fingers, as well as cutting on glass, etc.
never had a syringe go through my clothing, fortunately

there are cases, where there'll *only* be hard-ware though (in my yard, twice a year a dumpster comes along and people throw out their old computers/TV's/VCR's/DVD's/hardware; and there is a specific dumpster for that, hence I can freely loot them

at rare occasions, there'll be someone *not* liking what you do; so I prefer raiding dumpsters/trashrooms during the night-time/early morning

in Sweden it is illegal to dumpsterdive, but most people don't care

There's no such thing as a free MAME cabinet. Just like there's no such thing as a free puppy. Still looks like a lot of fun though.

sounds like a sweet idea for a project. Im guessing the hardest things to find for free will be good joysticks and buttons....but i could be wrong. seems like most mame cabs start with found parts in one way or another.

Cant wait to see some of the submissions!

this is a good site for info for those looking

@Hatta, on the page I linked off to I explained the rules that have been set (Though they are loose as its just for fun).
Things that can be purchased
While most of the things people can pay up to $500+ for in a mame arcade cab can be found in the wild at the nice price of $0, some things such as the buttons and joystick generally can not so for that purpose the following items cam be purchased.

. Arcade controls
. Screws, glue, other construction needs
. Perspex for the screen, though if free options are available, I will use them
. Items for finishing touches (While the cab may be completed I may wish to buy some decals, etc to give it that 'arcade' feel
I am not unrealistic, I don't think I will walk by and see someone has thrown out a Hori starter pack.

Haha, would make my day. Found a really nice piece of wood today, took out the screws that were in it, will later fill in the holes with puddy. LOVELY!
