What do you look for in a controller?
This may help... what's your absolute favorite controller and what would you change about it to make it better?
I'm all about wireless
I'm dying for a wireless arcade stick.
(Maybe Jesmic will make me one)
I'd also love a wireless Saturn 3D controller that had the analog and digitial controls function at the same time. Or, in other words, a Dreamcast controller with a six-button layout and more of Saturn's stylings
How 'bout you?
What Is Your Dream Game Controller?
Something based on the Sidewinder perhaps
I haven't really tried Wireless so I don't know how it would work.
Leaving motion sensing out of this for the time being (it's too novel for now, but it looks REALLY promising)...
I think I'd take the original Microsoft Sidewinder (if you take the Gameport version, take one of the centre buttons out. Microsoft already did that for me with the USB version) as a starting point. It's really ultra-comfortable. Tweak the direction-pad somehow to handle diagonals a bit better, while still maintaining it's comfort (I honestly don't know if that's possible). Squeeze a couple of analog sticks in there and have it with rubmle features (and wireless perhaps).
It does completely change the controller, so maybe I should have started with something else, but I really wanted to stress on the comfort. Although Nintendo's proprietary D-pad is good for control and getting diagonals, it's not the best in terms of comfort. I wonder if there is some way to hybridize them.
Ivo.

I really like the ps2 controller
NES had it right but I wouldn't mind playing all the old school consoles with a saturn controller.
I like the Logitec Wireless controllers for xbox, want to get one for ps2.
gotta run.

Well I am at a cross roads in that I like having my main mode of control in the primary location on the controller for my left thumb. While I use the hybrids, I do not think they are the ideal way of doing it - ideal for cost and space yes, but for feel not so much.
So for 2d a the Saturn layout with the SNES controls would be perfect for me.
3d the Gamecube controller did it almost perfectly for me except a few minor gripes:
1. Dpad needs to be NES sized, not GBA - not for primary control but for extra controls, like in Rogue Squadron. The current one is just to small for my taste, it doesnt feel right for what I want it to do.
2. B button should be curved like the other two, and all three should be slightly larger.
3. Thusly the A button should be slightly smaller.
4. A Z2 button over the L shoulder.
5. Make L and R normal buttons, or atleast not relying on the click.
That would probably make it the perfect controller for me. Now if I had to choose just one, Id go with the 2d one in heart beat. It is far easier for me to play 3d games with a dpad than 2d with a thumbstick.
This also probably explains why I have three different controller converters for my pc.

I'd love a wireless Saturn 3D controller and a wireless GCN controller with rumble and a better Dpad, as fastbilly said. That's my only gripe with the controller. Now, make those compatable with all systems, and I'd be in heaven. Those are basically the two best controllers to me. The 3D controller looks so goofy, but when playing shumps, it is a must!
Plus, I seem to somewhat be in the same category as racket on the subject of wireless. I love my 360 controller to pieces. The fact I can just play wherever is sweet. I wouldn't give up rumble, such as with the Wavebird, but I still love wireless! Oh, and there has to be a pair of wireless bongoes for Wii!

A wireless Saturn 3D pad with built in rumble and tilt sensors would be the bomb. I would love to play Nights without having to kill my thumb on an analog stick. (I play Nights for up to 4 hours streight!) Also make it Gamecube/Dreamcast compatible. Oh! Also throw the thing in a clear plastic shell with some leds! I'm drooling over here!

controllers are a very touchy subject for me. i was going to be competing in a tony hawk 3 tournament so i got it and played the hell out of it in preparation. i was using a microsoft sidewinder to play on the pc. come tournament day and i find out they are using the xbox version. that gigantic piece of s*** controller totally screwed me. i came in last place. directly after the tournament ended i went and played again on my pc and got quadruple the score of the winner. i hate the xbox to this day for no other reason than the controller. granted, they came out with a smaller version and i would like one now just so i can mod it, but it still feels like salt in the wound there.
now to get to the main question this post is about...
my favorite controller ever is the n64, and the gamecube controller would be a distant second. i'd take the n64 controller, add a second 'r' button (like on the gamecube), make it wireless and make the rumble built in instead of with a pak.
