Just thought I would post this here to see if anyone wanted to join in and try to build themselves a Mame cab built from nothing (mostly) but recycled parts. While it will take me quite a while to get it off the ground, please have a read and join in.
Read more about it here.

Scrap Yard Mame Project (Join in building a free mame cab)
Re: Scrap Yard Mame Project (Join in building a free mame cab)
Great idea brother, here in MPLS I grab alot of stuff from dumpsters- mostly food during the winter months. There was a time when I was scoring crates full of Naked juice every week. I'm always on the lookout for wood for art projects too, so this just seems natural. Eventually I would love to build a cab, although I have hardly any experience with wiring and soldering. I think I will give it a year or two, but I will be checking up on your progress nonetheless!
Re: Scrap Yard Mame Project (Join in building a free mame cab)
I'm in! I'm thinking I'll make a table top cabinet for space purposes. I already have an old PC that I can use, so I'll basically just need to find a suitable monitor and the wood to make it the cabinet. Should be a fun spring/summer project!
Re: Scrap Yard Mame Project (Join in building a free mame cab)
I don't know if I can build an entire MAME Cab out of scrap, but I know I can definitely get some old PC parts and cables that are just lying around. I'd probably have to go to an unfinished furniture store to get a coffee table. (I don't really know where to get tables or wood for free.
)

People throw out hard rubbish all the time, around the block I saw heaps of wood this morning while walking my dog, when I went back later in the day it had been picked up. Lesson, all ways grab it while you can.
If you guys decide you go at it, post any finds you find here / progress you make.

and this?:
do note the 2 Voodoo2 3DFX (12mb) in above picture; they work perfect in SLI
the P5QPRO is an old motherboard of mine, so count that out; I actually payed for it....*shudders*

Re: Scrap Yard Mame Project (Join in building a free mame cab)
sorry for picture heavy; but this is *some of the stuff* I've *found* in various trash-rooms/dumpsters during the course of the past 5 years or so
I have several more RAM-chips and add to that 3 lap-tops (with various degrees of difficulty in repairing; albeit 2 of them were given to me)
I have been dumpsterdiving since '86; so I know a couple of places to go to
been having the same idea as you for years; just no place to put it
but if I was to *build* a cabinet from scratch; I could probably use some of the handfuls of joysticks I have as well
add to that, 2: 28" TV's, which I've found and I'm in business
=)
:edit
almost forgot:
I've had to throw away (again) 1, 28" TV and 2 21" CRT monitors and all my 14" monitors, due to lack of storage space
I do have 3 17" monitors and 1 19" left (and a 12", just for the heck of it)
mebbe some of 'em could be used in a cab, as well?
:edit 2
and my girlfriend is using the 17" flat-screen I found last year
albeit I use a 22" widescreen, which I actually *bought*; but got it very, very cheap due to the packaging being broken (they had opened it)
