I am surprised it wasn't pushed to the 3DS. It would have really pushed hardware sales. Plus every generation of the series came out on different platforms so it's odd they break that tradition. That said I am happy they aren't whoring the game with 3d gimmicks. A year or so after the system is out they should start trying doing some innovating stuff with it though.
I see your point but remember that when the initial games came out it was 9 years into the GB in 1998 and then the Game Boy Color came out witch released 3 main games in its 2 1/2 year life span. the GBA was released in 2001 and the new set of games hit 2003, 2004 and 2005, 5 games total with the system dying in 2006. Now the DS line is in its 6th year with A batch of games coming out in 2007, 2009, and 2010, 5 games total with the end of the system seeing its demise (my guess) fall or end of 2011. So since the systems life span is longer and the games coming out are earlier in the life it does make somewhat sense to have a new generation for the DS.

I got a feeling that the 3DS was pushed for an announcement due to the iPad and increasing rumors of a DS successor (they said something about the latter situation). No release date is even given so we can touch the system at E3 but they will save it for late 2011 me thinks.

I think they will do a combination of these two ideas, if my theory is disproven about releasing 3DS much later than expected.

Plus, they are all just rehashes of old Pokemon, whether it be another "evolution" for a Pokemon or just a crap Knock off.

If you actually played the games it wouldn't be to hard to remember most of them. Only some of the very obscure 4th gen ones I don't know.

As well, how are they all rehashes? Sure the new eveolutions were added but only for pokemon who needed them to be useful at all. But there are tons of new pokemon that are unique:

Bibarel the Beaver pokemon

Kricketune a cricket pokemon

Gastrodon a slug pokemon

Image
Drifblim a ballon pokemon

Image
Brongzong a bell pokemon

Image
Garchomp a god damn walking shark

Image
Hippoowdon a hippo

Image
Drapion a scorpion

Image
Carnivine a Venus Fly trap

Image
Abomasnow a yeti

And this is just a small sampling of the unique pokemon. None of these have been done before, so saying the new ones are just rehashes is not true.

Hm, some of the new Pokemon are starting to kind of look like Digimon. Actually, that's been happening for a while now.

That I can agree with, its getting really bad with the legendaries, but I think the regular pokemon are at a good balance between generic and digimon looking.

So to be fair it isn't too impressive. There's a store in each game that only opens if you're inserted into the GBA. You might remember that one building you could never go into near the main towns. The important thing is that the game is able to detect the hardware it's running on and adjust accordingly. The black cart GBC games are another good example, where they adjust their palette depending on the hardware they're on.

I haven't bought a Pokemon game since gold and silver with the exception of the their remake i.e. heart gold. I see no reason to buy a new one considering they remade the best game in the series. I'll stick to buying one Pokemon game a decade.

Edit:
Just thought of this. I am gonna bet that this new game has all four countries in it. Maybe if that happens I would get it heh.
