I can't get onto the raiseitnow site for some reason. Is there any other way I can donate?
I really love your videos, and found out about the great forums here through one of your videos. I will donate as soon as I can. I really hope your friend is doing alright and gets the surgery she needs.

I just don't understand a country where you have to pay for medical treatment. It should be a basic human right, regardless of occupation, wealth or status.

Hope she pulls through.

I don't want to turn this into a Political Debate, but I'm with you. Unfortunately, it's going to take a looooong time before the US gets socialized health care. We did recently pass a bill through legislation that's a step in the right direction.

Yes, without getting in to politics, it does appear to be a great step in the right direction for you guys. The coverage of the debate was huge news in the UK due to all the speculation and accusations being thrown around about our national health service.

I made a small contribution (with paypal, I might add. No problems here). I hope things go well.

Reading the site, it really pisses me off that its a simple day patient procedure and the damn insurance company wouldn't cover it for her.

My father recently went back to Italy for a short time to get a simple surgery as well. (He's a Resident alien here in the states, and thus still an Italian citizen with rights to health care). He can't afford health insurance here even if they'd give it to him as he's 60 years old and considered high risk because of the very problems he needed surgery for.

His surgery was also day patient, easy stuff. But the flight to Italy and all other expenses from it still cost several thousand dollars less than it would have to get the job done here.

Yep - a signficant amount of coverage too. One of the things I remember clearly was a soundbite from a US politician saying something to the effect of "if Steven Hawking was British he would not be alive today"... that went down as well as a lead balloon, considering: a) Professor Hawking is English, b) he issued a statement that he was grateful for all the treatment he received from the NHS and would very likely not be alive today if it were not for them!

There were other accusations too, about stuff like people over the age of 70 not getting heart surgeries or cancer treatments. It all seemed a bit desperate, to be honest. I'd doubt anyone in the UK would grasp the reasons why people wouldn't want such a service, or want to oppose such legislation aimed at improving health care.
