I actually got this game on Racketboy's B/S/T section (thanks jose), and was inspired to do so by an article here (said article lead me to RB in the first place).
Bit of background- Drill Dozer is a game for the Gameboy Advance designed by Game Freak. Yeah, the Pokemon guys. It was released in 2006 stateside, and didn't sell that well unfortunately. Most notably the game came with a built-in rumble pack. The plot is simple- you're Jill, the daughter of the leader of the bandit gang the Red Dozers. Your father was beaten up by rival gang the Skullkers, and a red diamond, a gift from your late mother, was stolen. You kick Skullker ass in your tiny little mech suit, called a Drill Dozer.
Breakdown
Plot- 8/10. This isn't a game where I'm looking for a deep and compelling storyline. I would be playing a Final Fantasy or Dragon Age for that. However, Game Freak does a great job at fleshing out the world Jill wreaks havoc in, despite not having a deep plot.
Music- 4/10. My lowest score, because they ripped most of it wholesale from Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald.
Graphics/Design- 9/10. The character designs are great in my opinion, and the game does graphics very well for the GBA. Probably has to do with being so late in the lifespan of it.
Gameplay- 10/10. Drill Dozer is a puzzle/platformer game. Your drill spins clockwise or counter-clockwise, signified by Red and Blue respectively. You'd be amazed at how the designers made so many contraptions and puzzles through this concept. The learning curve is steep enough, but not crushing. By the end of the game you will be deflecting missiles, bouncing across stages like a madman, and shooting through pipes like you're motherfucking Sonic.
Complaints
Only one biggie. You have to pay for continues using money you lift during the level. Of course, you also need these continues for upgrades to your Dozer. This can get annoying. Of course, the best solution is to simply not die.
(yeah, not the best review, I know. Still a fun game)

Re: Brief Drill Dozer Review
I decided to throw this on my flash cart today, and immediately fell in love with the gameplay mechanics. I just hope it stays fresh throughout the remainder of the game.
Two features I really are the ability to save at any time and the included sleep mode.

I finished Yoshi's Island on the GBA today and was trying to figure out which GBA game to play next. I think this is probably going to be next on the menu for me after reading this review!
Re: Brief Drill Dozer Review
This is a must play game for GBA; I wish Game Freak make a sequel for DS, although that is unlikely

Great review for a great game. You hinted your review was hastened, probably so you can get back to Drill Dozer.
On the Gamecube GameBoy Player the Rumble feature works great through the controller.

They're too busy milking Pokemon to make things like Drill Dozer sequels.swiftzx wrote:This is a must play game for GBA; I wish Game Freak make a sequel for DS, although that is unlikely

I'm about halfway through this right now, and I'm loving it! It seems to have a ton of replay value as well. Thanks for reviewing this! I've owned it for a few years and have never given it the time of day until now!
