Anybody else got an iPad yet?

I opted for the 64gb version. I'm very happy with it, great for games too.

I honestly don't see why theres so much hype around them, other than the fact it's an Apple product of course.
It's just not a big deal to me when PCs are doing this as well, but with them you get a real PC.

hope you enjoy your iPad though, don't let me diminish your new toy.

iPad is a real computer. People often think of it still as just a large iPhone but its much more than that. For general computer use (internet, email, some games, music etc., the stuff that 90% of people that own computers use them for), its wonderful. I've already done a presentation using Keynote and typed a paper in Pages, both efficiently and easily. You can't diminish my new toy, I love it, you don't have too, but it's your loss in my eyes :)

I saw a video recently that likened the iPad to being "a giant swiss army knife". I couldn't have analogized it better myself. I'm still having trouble categorizing the device as a laptop/netbook or a PMP, largely because it fails at one by trying to be the other... at the same time. It's too large and cumbersome to be a PMP, and the software is far too limited to be a laptop/netbook. Sure, it looks nice, but I don't really see a use for it. [How many times has THAT been said about an Apple product? ]

I'm more looking forward to the HP Slate. I would get an iPad if it at least had USB ports. That and I hate how Apple does things. *cough*iTunes*cough*

When they announced it was running the same OS as the iPhone it instantly turned me off the device. I already have an iPhone, why would I want the same apps but bigger?

If it ran OS X it would have been an instant buy from me. Being able to use Logic Pro (and it's interface customisation features) and running Max/MSP with a touchscreen would have been irresistible. Running the iPhone OS... no thanks, I already have a device that does that, why would I want another one?

What does Mac OSX do that the iPhone OS doesn't do? I've only used Mac OSX at schools, so I don't know much about it. I thought that the iPhone OS was just a stripped down Mac OSX.

It is the same thing as an ipod touch though....it is just larger, which makes it easier to use for more things. But it is the same software, same OS, etc.

Although, I will say, I really want to play the ipod espgaluda ii port on an ipad.....mmmmmmm

I tried one out the other day. I won't lie, I didn't have high expectations, but a part of me was hoping to be surprised. It's a neat toy, and I couldn't see myself using it as anything else. It's large enough that'd I'd rather just carry my laptop with me. And there isn't a single worthwhile thing on the planet that a ipad can do better than a decent laptop. It also magnified to me how deficient the way they're set up is. It's ridiculous to have separate applications that do little more than access information on various webpages, when a full featured browser could do the same thing.
