Sega Saturn on LCD UPDATE
Re: Sega Saturn on LCD
Re: Sega Saturn on LCD
I got the box but not the cord. The composite video input works fine, although the picture that it blows up is blurry (although in a way it makes it look better). The S-Video connection however does not work and the signal is all garbled (after testing with PS2). I'll have to send it back and try to conquer Saturn on HDTV another day ... I think I'll just take care of the Gamecube component cord for now.
It's really too bad but, it looks this was a failure. My options now are either SCART or the Japanese box (which IS guaranteed to work with S-Video).

Re: Sega Saturn on LCD
That sucks. I wonder if the S-Video cable or connections itself might be bad?
Strange that blurry Composite works, yet S-Video would give a rolling image. Any way of testing the S-Video hookup on a S-Video direct input TV ?(maybe a friends) That will at least confirm the S-Video Cable and Saturn are okay at that video setting. Both S-Video and Composite are similar signals with the S-Video offering separation of the Chroma Luma signals.
Hope refund works out, if the S-Video transcoder issue doesn't get resolved. With the amount spent on a Transcoder maybe pursue that better quality RGB to VGA, HDMI or Component? Which ever is the cost effective route that has good reviews and a refund option.

Re: Sega Saturn on LCD
I got the Saturn S Video cord in the mail. And for some reason, the Saturn S Video DOES properly display on the box. The color was a little washed out, which was easily fixed by upping the color option in the menu. There seems to be something up with the resolutions, but 800x600 and 75hz seems to work for me. The picture isn't very sharp, but its fine.

Now I just need to extend the audio cords.

Re: Sega Saturn on LCD
I found out that when in PC mode my TV only accepts sound from it's 3.5 mm stereo jack. So basically I need to use something like this

And then some sort of RCA to 3.5mm stereo cord. There are lots of cords claiming to be 3.5mm to RCA - would that work? Something like this:

Re: Sega Saturn on LCD
If you're coming from a game console then you probably need a female RCA to 3.5. Something like this to go from the cable out of the console to the TV.

That's perfect, thank you!
Re: Sega Saturn on LCD
Second group of pics look fine, I can see the screen!
Hobie-wans correct cable suggestion definitely a lot better value too.
I was gonna suggest Wally Mart if you need it right away but would cost more then Monoprice.

I wonder what it is with PS2. I noticed that on my TV, plugging PS2 into composite gives me a black and white picture with lines running up and down it. Is PS2 just weird?
Re: Sega Saturn on LCD
Was the first group of pics with a PS2? What kind of cable did you use? Same thing, test on another TV to eliminate if its a bad cable / PS2 connection.MerRocher wrote:I wonder what it is with PS2.
