Can you play Game Gear games on the Master System?
Can you play Game Gear games on the Master System?
I know it's possible to play cartridge based Master System games on the Game Gear using a special adapter but what about the other way around? Did Sega release an adapter for the Master System that lets you play Game Gear games on your big screen TV?

There was a topic on this a while ago. There was a link of someone who got a SMS to play a Game Gear flashcart, but it would come out black and white. I'll see if I can find it.

no.Inazuma wrote:I know it's possible to play cartridge based Master System games on the Game Gear using a special adapter but what about the other way around? Did Sega release an adapter for the Master System that lets you play Game Gear games on your big screen TV?
The game gear has a slightly larger color palette, so the best possible adapter would still have a few inevitable color glitches.
I don't see why there wouldn't be a 3rd party game gear adapter for the genesis though; then you could get a nomad, plug in the GEN->GG adapter, and have your own ghetto version of a game gear.

I was wondering the same thing today because there are some Shining Force games I want to play on my TV, and my GameGear is pretty crusty

The Game Gear Shining Force games were ported to the Sega CD with a whole bunch of new additions I believe. It's also expensive, but from what I hear you could probably download it and burn it since it was pre CD burner in every home era.

I've seen some adapters to play SMS games in a GG, but not really anything to do the opposite.
Got: Atari 2600, Atari 7800Pro, Commodore 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, NES, Genesis Models 1-3, Nomad, Game Gear, Sega CD Model 1, Sega 32x, SuperNES, GameBoys, GameBoy Pocket, GBC, Sega Saturn Model 2, GBA, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2 Slim, Nintendo DS Lite, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PS3 Slim

Id guess that the reason there's no converter to go the other way is because there's not enough palette entries to do it cleanly so the best way involves some z80 rom hacking on a per-game basis:

Unfortunately Tototek's SMS flash cart is out of stock.

Chris hacked a Tototek SMS flash cart to work on a Game Gear before they produced Gamegear specific ones.

So the process is probably reversible... and there's *one* GG flash cart in stock at Tototek

Aside from that it is possible to hack a game gear to output video to a TV with some hardware hacking:
There's a Gamegear-TV adapter for pretty cheap, but it only does B&W.

Chris Covell did a full color video output hack on a Game Gear, but it looks pretty difficult to do this kind of thing

I kinda want that GG flash cart, but I've overspent my budget for the next week so I figured someone here should get it before it's gone...

This looks like the best solution. I may look into it later. Thanks for the help.Anapan wrote: Chris Covell did a full color video output hack on a Game Gear, but it looks pretty difficult to do this kind of thing
