Frustrating boss fights tonight = nostlagic fun

Post by jfe2 »

I really don't know why I'm posting this, but I just had some thoughts about what I was playing tonight, so here it is. :)

I'm sure I just need to learn some patterns and give it some time, but I was playing Punchout!! and Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth on the Wii tonight and had a hell of a time in certain areas of each game.

Punchout!! was pretty easy up until I got to Tiger Singh, who proceeded to pummel me twice before I finally figured out his pattern. I think part of the problem, and this was the same in the original Mike Tyson's Punchout!!, is that I have trouble seeing his jewel light up since I'm colorblind. It's not as bad as it was in the original game, as it is a bit brighter in the Wii version, but it still makes it hard for me to determine when he is going to strike.

I also played a bit of Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth and made it to Death before getting a game over screen. I died three times while fighting him, and only really got his pattern down towards the end of the third fight. I called it a night after getting the game over, but I can't wait to give it another shot.

I originally didn't know that there was a level select in this game, but now that I know there is it will make the game less stressful. It would almost seem like a chore to try to make it through in one sitting, as fun as the game is.

I used to get legitimately stressed out while playing games that were frustrating to me, but now I find the challenges to be exciting. I feel like a kid again! It's so refreshing to have this type of outlook on gaming. I think I turned over a new leaf around the time that I discovered this site, so I guess I should say thanks to the community for helping me have fun again!

I only found out that the game had a level select AFTER I beat the game for the first time. Would have been useful to know when I didn't know the game so I can skip right to the level I died on last, not having to play through all the levels to get there.

Yeah, they didn't do a good job of letting people know about it for whatever reason. It's almost integrated as a "secret" and not a feature. In fact, many reviews that I read for the game gave it a lower score because there was no save feature or level select. Perhaps it would have fared better had people known about it.

I love boss battles like that! :D

The last game I've played that had legitimately difficult bosses that required pattern memorization was Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie Barbecue. I've only played it on Hard Mode, so the bosses ranged from medium difficulty to truly horrendous. Every victory is just soooooo sweet once achieved.

I felt the same way playing Barnyard Blast Swine of The Night's final boss, the aptly named "Mr. Final Boss." Unfortunately, due to broken controls, I could only get through the game with infinite lives. It turned out a bit like that Prinny game XD

You can always count on Death to be crazy hard in Castlevania. As is often mentioned, he's usually harder than Dracula himself. It's close in rebirth, though. Also, I was glad to finally see Dracula as the hardest boss in Order of Ecclesia.

There's a level select?

I have got to get back on Castlevania Rebirth.

I don't think I had a problem in the original Punchout with seeing the jewel flash, but I think I had the brightness on my television turned up all the way. My colorblindness has affected me in other games, though. I think I'm going to check and then start a thread on this, if there isn't one already.

Sweet! A level select!

I gave up on this game because playing it in one sitting with two kids under two running/crawling around has been impossible.
But, with the level select to get to the last level I played beating this game just moved up on my "to do" list.

You can access the level select in Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth by holding right on the d-pad at the "Game Start" option on the title screen. I know it's helped me out! I'm currently at the last stage, and I think its safe to say that Dracula is a beast in this game!

Watch who you are calling a d-pad.

That could actually catch on in the gaming world."He actually used a game genie to beat Bad Dudes? What a D-Pad".
