I'm looking into getting one. It will probably be the last system I buy for quite awhile unless sony microsoft or nintendo acctually do something besides brag about how good there systems look or in nintendos case how good the dont look.
1. How much is a Neo geo cd gonna run me with a few decent games
2. Is the neo geo CD better then the neo geo in terms of game library? im a fan of shmups puzzlers and fighters mostly (ie metal slug, samurai showdown, last blade ex-cetera)
3. Is that controller with the odd looking d-pad as awesome as it looks?
4. Is it more expensive to buy for neo geo or a neo geo CD
Any other points one would like to bring up about either of the systems would be awesome. Im a novice at neo geo systems and dont know much and would appreciate the help. If there is anyone who comes across this that is selling either feel free to PM me.
Neo geo or neo geo CD and other questions to get me started.
Re: Neo geo or neo geo CD and other questions to get me started.
If you're not a collector, get a PS2 with Metal Slug Anthology, SNK arcade classics volume 1, King of Fighters anthology, etc... I've got that and am perfectly happy with it.

I am collecting and I hate sony's controllers
Re: Neo geo or neo geo CD and other questions to get me started.
You can use a stick on a PS2 regardless.
Anyway, there are quite a few Neo Geo topics out and about already, but regardless, in terms of value you need to be more specific. I presume by "Neo Geo" you mean an AES, which is ungodly expensive. The system itself isn't so bad, but games like the original Metal Slug would cost thousands, with no exaggeration. The arcade carts (MVS) can be used on a television, however, which are vastly more affordable. A Supergun or a consolized MVS board will get you on a television.
I don't know much about Neo Geo CD, but that it's vastly cheaper than AES, it has superior audio to alternatives, and severe load times. AES and MVS are generally superior for that reason, but some patient people enjoy their Neo Geo CD.
Oh, and in terms of games, ADK World, Zintrick, Brikin'ger/IronClad, NG Special, Samurai Spirits RPG are all exclusive to the CD. IronClad is the special game there, being a great shooter, but it was also recently released in MVS form on the Virtual Console, which people have extracted used to make a MVS cart. MVS has lots of games exclusive to it, though I couldn't find a list. WindJammers is the first to come to mind.

I am going to say go with a Neo Geo Multi Video System MVS (the arcade). I live in the Midwest. I just bought a 4 slot MVS with 17 games for $350 (it did need a little work). An aes will cost you more for the games.

I am talking about these 2 consoles http://www.videogamecritic.net/neogeoinfo.htm
I want to know which is better and would be the best choice. From what i've read there both the exact same system with minor differences. They play the exact same games but the neo geo cd is obviously on cd and has a few exclusives in its catalogue is this true? Am I understanding that correctly? If what you say is true about the other console and it is going to cost me thousands you probably just answered my question as to which one im buying.

Re: Neo geo or neo geo CD and other questions to get me started.
I guessed at what you meant in my post. The same info applies. But keep in mind you can buy a consolized MVS board - an arcade board, modded to output composite and usually chroma and luma [S-Video] and stereo. With that, you can play MVS carts. You can also use a Supergun on a AES system (the home Neo Geo cartridge system you linked) to play MVS carts on it, but we're talking about a similar final price for either option - possibly even more for the Supergun, as an AES system isn't that cheap to begin with, as it carries a collectors' price.
Most MVS carts are cheap and most Neo Geo CDs are cheap, so both are good options. But MVS has the advantage of much (MUCH) better loading times. If you've ever played a 1X speed CD console before, you know just how slow we're talking about. Especially for collecting purposes, MVS is EXACTLY like the arcade without the AES prices (though some MVS carts can get into the hundreds, but very, very few).
Neo Geo CD is definitely the cheapest overall, but for the few exclusives it has, MVS has even more exclusives.

Re: Neo geo or neo geo CD and other questions to get me started.
Also did the neo geo cd even come to north america or am I just stupid and cant find anything for it ? I cant find any american games or consoles its all straight out of japan. Not that it matters unless I play a game with text but still. The AES system translates japanese games to english if you put them in an american console does the ngcd do that as well ?
