Linux can be a pain in the ass, especially on an older computer, for some one that doesn't know how to use it. I'm sure Mod Man just wants a headache-free laptop to crap around on.

Also, you should use Linux, you can install it to a USB stick very easily. Linux is very good for just general web browsing. Beats the pants of off winbloat.
The laptop I'm thinking of using CF's for has USB1.1 and doesn't allow booting off of a flash drive if I recall correctly.

Also, please read the first post. I asked nicely for people to not suggest linux, I've had this argument several times and and getting extremely tired of telling people that I don't want linux.
Yes I read your first post, I was being facetious. Guess I should have coloured my text blue...

I was in a both sarcastic/annoyed mood when I typed that so don't take it to heart.

Ziggy hit the nail on the head as to what I'm trying to do with these laptops. Basically, I just want to have some cheap, easily durable, insanely hard to break portable computing with enough horsepower to browse the web and screw around here on RacketBoy with when I'm on the go.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS
