Tought I was in the clear

Post by Kevman »

Ever since I got my BRAND NEW Xbox 360 Elite system I thought this thing was built to last for awhile (in Xbox standards anyway). I've heard a lot of talk on these forums about new Jasper units and whatnot and was very optimistic.

Apparently not, because only after a year of owning this pos it gave me three red rings. Yay Bill Gates!

that sucks. i have a few friends who have gone through 3 or so. xbox keeps sending them new/fixed 360s and they just keep shitting the bed.

the funny thing is, a buddy of mine has a launch 360, plays it EVERYDAY, and still has yet to have any problems with it.
if you took a shit, please put it back

how cool did you keep the xbox? a lot of the system failures are due to heat. sometimes even hot room temp is a cause..even if it takes awhile to take into effect.

From what I've heard, that does have a lot to do with it. Whether you keep the system in an enclosed spot (inside furniture, etc) or out in the open, the ambient temperature, etc.

I hear the same kind of things all the time. I guess it's just hit or miss with them.

Kind of bullshit to hear about this still happening. I have a funny feeling that this will be talked about decades from now when something similar happens. I got lucky and only had my system red ring once. It wasn't launch day, about 2.5 years in or so. What's funny is that my friends and I have started referring to broken stuff that shouldn't break as "360'd."

Case in point. My friend bought a new car. Brand fucking new. Had it for 300 miles and it started misfiring. Had to take it back for new plugs. Told him his new Mazda just 360'd.

Most of my friends are car people and when we say that we mean this:

I only had a red light once and it turned out that I just had to push my AV cables back in tighter. I use HDMI now and have not had that same problem. I play my system sometimes 10+ hours and it is in an small space but I open the front to my TV center when I am using it. I heard putting them on their sides is bad for them though because if the solder heats the chip can slide or some such crap. I know nothing of soldering so I am unsure how true that is. Sucks to hear about peoples getting the RRoD though.

The red lights you get from not having the AV cables connected is different from that of death: Death = 3 lights, AV problem = 4 lights. I see the AV one all the time; I use the same set of cables for my 360 as for my Xbox. (It's a multi-system S-video cable set. I HAVE to have it if I want to be able to read text on my 360, since I play it on an SD TV. Don't have the money for those fancy, not-so-new anymore HD ones. My next TV will probably be one though.)
