Custom Super Famicom SNES

Post by electrochip »

I picked up a beat up and yellowed system to play around with. I painted it black with red, controllers as well, and cut the slots so US and JPN games would fit. I removed the RF out and modded it for Digital Audio and the RF switch now changes the system from 50/60hz. I replaced one of the controller cords with a US one since it is longer than JPN one.

Very nice job on the paint. What did you use to get that nice matte?

My friend is working on some vinyl stickers of the nintendo logo to use on the them. I kinda like it plain though.

Looks niiiice. Congratulations on not making your system fugly with a shit paint job, there's way to much of that. I really like how the face buttons look against the matte black. I'd consider some gloss black accents if I were doing it, but that's just me. That'd probably make it look like a Sega console  .

Make sure you practice on some other stuff first. There is no need to sand, but cleaning the system thoroughly is a must. I would highly recommend spraying white first over any part you want to paint with a light color.

killer job. Have you been modding a while? Adding digital out and stuff sounds tricky. Any words of advice to aspiring customizers?

as a hobby a few years yes, I used this guide here http://gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=av:snes_sp_dif and used the cs8406 with a dip adapter to make it easier to solder. I don't remember where I got the parts, ordered them over a year ago, I did one other SFC and sold it awhile back.
