it would be a good idea. You never really know what is going to go up in value. Plus, i don't think ps2 games are ever going to get lower than where they are now, and still be a good game. Fatal frame stuff might not get lower than where it is. There will probably be a glut of like... barbie games or some such nonsense at gamestop for a buck in a couple years, but you wont' find any quality in that pile. I'm picking up a lot of games i've had my eye on (dot hack series and a lot of racket's hidden gems) but just couldn't justify paying for at the time of release. Games like Cold fear look fun, and costs like 3 dollars. Who doesn't have 3 dollars!? Hidden gems. Where it is at.

My rule when seeing ps2 games is this: If it is under 20 i consider it. Under 10 and unless i hear mixed reviews, i pick it up. Under 5 and if it looks interesting at all, I'll get it.

The crux of all this are games that i would really like that i don't end up getting becuase they are just over 20. Games like ratchet and clank size matters or clank secret agent.
Pretty much how I operate as well. It's hard to pass up a decent game for <$5. Lots of great Gamecube and Xbox games are still cheap like that too.

I'd like to get Mana Khemia 2 and Ar Tonelico 2... but they are still $40.

Killing me. I was hoping the recent Toys R Us Buy 1, Get 1 50% off would lemme get 'em, but they got rid of them a while back. Gah...

Another couple factors for price rise and fall concerning these rare games as examples.

PS2 REZ dropped in price when 360 download version came out. So did N64 Sin and Punishment when offered as download on Wii.

PS2 ICO jumped in price with the new anticipated release of The Last Guardian. Not as rare as REZ but still went up in price. PAL/Japanese version of ICO, with extra features definitely the one to get.

Overall I think now is the time to load up, especially at Gamestop where the PS2 stock will eventually be cleared out. After that happens, the PS2 games will be harder to find and go up in value.

Yeah, there is usually a temporary blip upwards in price whenever a sequel is announced/released. I think that is why we are seeing an increase in price for games like God of War, Final Fantasy, Yakuza, and Ico.

Release of a digital version also drops value of the original release.

yeah, those digital releases of games is really killing the value of some rarer titles. Capcom vs SNK for ps2 isn't worth half as much now that it's been released on virtual console. Still though, I'm hoping most of you guys are right. Right now I'm snatching up all the sealed copies I can get my hands on. It can be pricey, but so much more satisfying (and potentially lucrative).

I don't see the prices falling to rock bottom, especially with some of the more acclaimed titles like God of War (II), Ico/Shadow of the Colossus, and so on. Hell, copies of Final Fantasy VII still run for like 40-50 dollars 10 years later.

I've noticed very little change in prices for these games when digital download versions came out. Final Fantasy VII costs about as much as it ever did, same thing with SOTN.
