Anyone else think 3D technology will fall on its face?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Eh... no. I'd never replace my CRT's with LCD's. CRT is so much better it isn't even funny.
My Avatar name speaks for me.

NO... I already have the ability to display the damn signal, just give me a pair of stupid glasses that sync...
120Hz Sony 4:3 Wega HD CRT, maybe get it to work flat 3D?

I was not talking about "us" retro gamers, I was saying majority of people now have LCDs. I have both LCD and CRT televisions, but I still like how CRTs look on older systems.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

I have a feeling that if CRTs were still being made - given modern technology, we would still see the top picture quality coming from them, instead of plasmas, lcds, leds. My 9 year old viewsonic prof CRT displays my 360 best I've ever seen it. Now that monitor is a pretty high end VGA, but that gives a good idea of where the technology might be at on a more standard level.
From what I've seen, nothing beats the ultra sharp and color vibrant video of a decent VGA CRT, for new stuff, standard def crt with component or RGB inputs for old stuff. I always just considered the size difference the main reason for its phase out.

I won't get into the 3d thing because it makes me sick too. I'm pretty annoyed by its recent hype, but oh well I guess I can be happy for those who enjoy it.

I'm so, so very happy that the eminem look was a fad. So happy to see the wife beaters, bleached hair and adidas visors go out of style. Luckily a nice suit and a pair of cap toe shoes will always be in style. I'm hoping the mega huge sunglasses on girls leaves soon. It's as if some fashion designer said, "How do I make sunglasses that appeal to ugly girls? Hmm. I got it! Make the glasses cover their entire ugly face!". Seriously, I can't tell if a girl is cute or not when wearing those things. Might as well don a space helmet.

Agreed. I never understood them. They look like novelty bug eyes. The kind cheap supervillains use to fashion their costumes cowl out of.

I'm currently pretty enamoured with 42" Viera Plasma, the only suitable upgrade for a SD-CRT. LCD just doesn't cut it unfortunately. The tech just isn't a satisfactory replacement.

When you say "CRT", are you referring to those "cathode-ray tube" televisions that have the lead screen reflecting the cathode rays in order to project images? If you are, then I want to ask if they're either making smaller and more improved versions of those things or if that format has been abandoned entirely by widescreen TVs...

I think they have been completely abandoned for the cheaper to manufacturer LCD screens. You may be able to still get the remainder of stock in certain places, but you're pretty much relegated to used CRTs or going for a plasma or LED screen, unless you want to be a cheap-ass and settle for LCD...

I do not know where you looked at TVs but plasma sets are much cheaper than LCD sets.

Plus they are prone to burn-in.

Everyone who is tossing out their CRT will regret it years later.
