Games in (Target) store shelves new look.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

You bring it to the check out and bam, there's your game. No asking or waiting for someone to unlock the game in the back. Only thing I didn't like about it is sometimes they used black and white copies instead of color. Why can't stores bring this back, then stores like Gamestop can stop gutting new games. Gamestop doesn't even need to reprint since they send tons of promo inserts anyways.
Definitely helped "TRU" with shrink, but pissed off the customers. I hated having to stand in line to pay and then stand in another line to pick up at the controlled merchandise counter, ah the good old bad days.

Smaller individual store such as Gamestop can make that idea work. I think the current policy on new games is keep one empty case on display and the rest sealed up behind the counter. As for older games? Employee time is money, the logistics, so it boils down to which way is better way to go.

You my friend have probably not worked for Gamestop. They could care less about employee time saving. If they did you wouldn't have to transfer merchandise to another store that you just got yesterday. The label machines would print out 2 copies of the sku instead of you having to print another one. There would be a way to scan merchandise in in the back instead of tying up a register. Gamestop's policy is to gut a certain # of new releases, its usually 5 but I was at a store that did 8. Then change them out for a newer game and seal back the other gutted copies keeping at least one on the floor for new games that aren't new releases.

No matter which way you are waiting, Target for an employee to come unlock the case, Gamestop for them to find the game in a sleeve, Toyrus, old way, where you went to another line to pick it up. I think some stores had a pull tag system, like Service Merchandise, which is the worse because a lot of times they didn't have the game you pulled the tag for or kids thought it would be fun to take all the tags.

Another part of problem with the old TRU way, kids grabbing those pretty game tags and leaving in another aisle, throwing off inventory count. Still the worst is having to stand in line again AFTER paying for the product. The store has you tied up at that point.

Is that true about Gamestop opening five or eight copies of new games? Why?
Perhaps if a high volume huge crowded store, might make sense to avoid a missed new 1st day of release sale. Three people looking for the same game at the same time, maybe a chance of a loss sale if no more displays. My local Gamestop store has one open empty display on the shelf, new shrunk wrap ones behind the counter in plain site for customers to see. The open empty single case goes back to the shelf. I would never buy a new game unsealed, when just as easy going to Wally-mart at same price, or slightly cheaper at Costco.

As far as transfers of just received stock, that is any retailer. Other store doesn't forecast how much to order or forgets to order, so a reaction is get a quick transfer from another store. Hopefully you have enough control to retain a minimum of each SKU. Also the issue of getting too much merchandise dumped on your store by corporate.

I fully agree.

If I worked for Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft marketing, I would also provide computerized displays to retailers that are hooked to an central online database that would allow for providing regularly updated content about the latest software for the system, complete with screen shots, videos, and summaries. Sort of like a CD listening station, but that allows in store consumers to learn about the games in the store before they buy.

Never had a problem finding the game I want to purchase at any store, because I never look for it. I simply go to the cashier, tell him/her what I want, and they find it for me.

But I always go into a store knowing what I want to purchase.

Anyone else remember those glass displays with holes in them? The only place that I know of that has them is a Hastings about half-an-hour away.

Our hastings had that until they moved to the building across the street.

I just went to Target to exchange memorex cd-r music brand for cd-r data. I didn't find any those new video game display except for the ugly glass display and there was a poll blocking the isle. Maybe all targets will get the new look someday this year. I don't know when I'll be going back to that other target.
