It's already happened. Septerra Core was a Japanese RPG made by western developer Valkyrie Studios, and King's Field/Demon's Souls is a Western RPG made by Japanese developer From Software.

Doesn't that make things awkward?

Until we get to some universally agreed upon alternative names, it's the best we have.

It's just like how a lot of people refer to American comic books that are done in a Japanese style "Amerimanga".

EDIT: Does the same thing happen with American Anime like Teen Titans?

Yeah, pretty much. Most book stores and video stores I've been to will put Anime/Manga-style American stuff right in the Anime/Manga section.

It's not that I hate American stuff - it just doesn't freaking belong there. If I'm looking for comic books, I wouldn't want to have to go through a bunch of issues of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Fist of the North Star and Berserk just because they have a similar style.
