Games in (Target) store shelves new look.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Games in (Target) store shelves new look.

Post by benderx »

i just walk into a Target near my neighborhood and went straight to gaming section. I was confused and surprised how they are handling gaming display case area. Its not the glass display case anymore from looks of it. Its gives more of input space for all video games. Just imagine walking into a toysrus back in the late 80's ...kinda. Sorry, I don't have any pictures to show you guys the new look, but I'm thinking of going back this Wednesday (maybe the other Target near my school has it) just to show you guys. Basically you see all games and can look at the back cover of the latest games. Its kinda hard to explain the new look. Consoles kiosk get a new look. The games are displayed like a plastic bedroom drawer, but in a slanted way. I guess it made it easier for workers to pull out the game from each section. Say for instance you are holding God of War 3 game inside of plastic case attach to a strong string to the shelf while the rest of games are displayed behind stacked. I also found 2 nintendo wii consoles laying on the shelf while other ones were behind kiosk glass case.

I believe Target is just making the gaming section a little bigger.

No more of this display

My local Walmart has it so that the glass barriers are gone, instead the games are sitting on the racks with little plastic electronic alarms on them. This lets you pull them out and stuff, you also don't have to ask an employee to get out the game.

Pic of new display? Maybe old displays might make worthy of a dumpster dive? :D

Gonna have to take a look myself. Does this mean another excuse to buy more games? :D

This is nothing new. Many Walmart and Target stores have parted with the glass cabinet style.

Actually I went another Target near by home last Saturday, but I didn't get a chance to look at the video game section. I did notice both Target store near my home getting a new (redo the) grocery section but it was closed off to the public.

While I like being able to you know...grab a game and look at it, this is a retailers worst nightmare as far as shrink goes. Doesn't take long to start wandering the shelves finding shrink wrap and open plastic cases. Those keys that open the plastic cases are pretty easy to come by, if you even bother to open them in the store.

I'm curious to see how long this display set up lasts at the mega retailers.

I still think Toysrus did it the best in the 90's. They had a laminated copy of the front and the back artwork for the game. You bring it to the check out and bam, there's your game. No asking or waiting for someone to unlock the game in the back. Only thing I didn't like about it is sometimes they used black and white copies instead of color. Why can't stores bring this back, then stores like Gamestop can stop gutting new games. Gamestop doesn't even need to reprint since they send tons of promo inserts anyways.
