I have to admit that I had some reservations about this idea at first. Two reasons: I'm kinda an arcade purist, and I love CRT monitors. The idea of jerry-rigging an LCD into a classic arcade cabinet strikes me wrong.
Now that I've seen pictures of your LCD monitor in action, I realize you had a great idea all along. Your cabinet looks excellent with the new monitor.
So how does the picture look when moving? Do you get scan-lines or artifacting? Are you stretching the proportions of the screen?

Re: Neo Geo MVS-2 mini 13 arcade monitor swap... HELP! :)
I am probably just getting picky now, but I am thinking of other mods/upgrades I can do for this little guy.
I ran into this amazing tip while watching some LukeMorse1 videos on youtube. If you guys haven't checked out his channel yet you need to! Badass game collector/modder. In one video, he shows how to connect a Pause button to a Neo arcade!! There have been several times since getting this thing where I wish I had one. Playing a console game and gotta piss or whatever? No problem, Pause... not so much on arcade... until now!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkxctnwXxT0
Other thing I was thinking of was a new power supply. I don't think the current one is stock from the factory old, but it's definitely an old one. Before my CRT's 'hummm" was the loudest thing in this cab, now I can hear the PS fan. New PS coupled with my new LCD will make this thing super energy efficient. Any recommendations as to what PS to buy? Have no idea when it comes to arcades.
Whadda yah think?

It seriously looks perfect. No image issues whatsoever, no matter how much action/movement is going on.
Converter supports 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 and 1360x768(weird)
No ghosting, lag, interlacing, jitters, nothing!
After testing it on several resolutions and on several games, I have it running at 1024 widescreen, sure the image is stretched, but it's hardly noticeably. I can easily tell the monitor to swap back to 4:3 if a game stretched, looks too weird to play.
I noticed that the chips on the converter are Samsung, cant go wrong with them!
Super happy with how this turned out.

That pause button mod looks really easy. You should definitely do that. If you're looking for a new power supply, you can order one straight from Happ. The part number is 80-0072-00. http://www.happ.com/powersupplies/powsup_xref.htm
Modern arcade machines save a lot of energy by using switching power supplies. I believe you can make this one work.

Thanks for the help Sam. I am curious as to how you know that particular power supply on happ is compatible. I trust you, I just don't know how to shop for these and curious how you come to that conclusion.samsonlonghair wrote:That pause button mod looks really easy. You should definitely do that. Also I don't understand what this "switching" PS is all about. What switches? This will also be compatible with such an old machine as my Neo? Looks cool and pretty cheap.

Power supply number 80-0072-00 is designed specifically to work with Neo Geo cabinets. That's how I know it will work. Back in the day, every cabinet had its own heavy-duty custom power supply. The easiest surefire way to get a working power supply is to order the power supply made for the system.
Since you mentioned that you're eager to make your cabinet "super energy efficient" I decided to mention the modern switching power supply. Modern arcades use this one-size-fits-all power supply because it is reliable, because it is smaller and lighter, and because it uses less power. It also runs a few degrees cooler. It can take the 110W AC power from an American outlet and supply +5V DC power, +12V DC power, and -5V DC power lines. That should be everything you need to run your neo geo cab. I don't see any reason why you couldn't hook up your neo geo to this power supply with a little work.
Here's a little technical data on switching power supplies:

Ah, I love when something is just the perfect size like that. Looks good. Will look great once you add trim to hide the edges.

Ahh OK... when I searched the HAPP page for 80-0072-00 I didn't notice that it was listed as being compatible with several arcades, I just saw the first one as saying it was for Konami cabs...samsonlonghair wrote:That pause button mod looks really easy. I would definitely be interested in the switching PSU, I just want to make sure its compatible and easy to install. The regular PSU would be easy as you just swap it out... I just wouldn't want to have to splice and dice connectors to retrofit the switching PSU to work.
