Star Wars Question*

Post by Luke »

I'm almost ashamed that I never recognized this before.

So in Empire, there is that great scene when Luke leaves Dagobah, against Obi and Yoda's strong advice. As the X-Wing takes off, Obi-Wan utters, "That boy is our only hope". Yoda responds, "No, there is another".

Um. Obi-Wan was not only there for the delivery of Luke and Leia, but also gave Leia to Senator Organa.

So wtf?

And "shitty writing" is not an acceptable answer.

*If I can't get somewhat of a decent answer in 48 hours, feel free to delete this thread.

Obi-Wan could've simply forgot?

Part of some planned story arc that never went through?

Idk it's been theorized that Lucas just made shit up as he went along so that's probably what's going on here.

Aside from a "shitty writing" answer, I'd say it's that Obi didn't recognize the extent of Leia's strength, while Yoda did. Which leaves open the question as to how Yoda could recognize that strength in her, being the hermit that he is.

Why isn't "shitty writing" an acceptable answer?

As has been pointed out, in Episode 1, Obi-Won Kenobi is referred to as a Jedi Knight in the opening crawl text, despite the fact that he doesn't actually become a Jedi Knight until the end of the film.

I guess the real answer is that no, he did not deliver princess Leia to senator Organa. That never happened. I will now stick my fingers in my ears, close my eyes, and go "la la la la la la la la!" very loudly.

In the EU, they explain why a R-4 is refereed to as a R-2 in A NEW HOPE, and all other inconsistencies. I was just wondering if some super star wars nerd had somewhat of a concrete answer.

I may just have to resort to the "lalalala" method too.

Obi Wan has a selective memory. He also forgot that R2 D2 followed him around for the first 3 movies.

Also, am I the only one who thought yoda gave up really easily at the end of episode III. He falls off a ledge and decides "failed I have. Must go into exile" or something like that.

I don't know, maybe I'm stupid, but I always thought that Yoda was referring to Vader/Anakin.

To be fair, his line is "I don't seem to recall ever owning a droid," which is true if we assume that the R4 in his starfighter is not actually owned by him, but is instead on loan from the Jedi Temple. Also, he wouldn't necessarily be able to recognize R2-D2, as it could be another R2 unit with the same paint scheme. That and it's ~20 years later.

I'd say that Yoda, during the fight, realized that he wasn't a match for Sidious and his knowledge could be better spent training the Son of Skywalker.
