I use this site for softmodding. It also has the files needed conveniently listed in the post.
As for AR/controller mod, I got around it by ordering the xbox-usb cable from Play-Asia and using a old 32MB thumbdrive.
Or if you do not want to spend any money, you can just hotswap, which I don't recommend unless you know what you are doing and willing to risk ruining your xbox.
