Should I Update wii to 4.2?

Post by benderx »

I' thinking about updating my wii to play current wiiware games because I can't get them to run. I have tried latest version of cios stuff and wii gui manager 1.5, but the wiiware games just take me back to main menu. I'm also considering to use bootmii app just incase. I hardly update my apps or firmware. I believe my wii is at 3.3 U. I was just afraid of bricking my wii until I heard about bootmii.

So should I update wii for those new wiiware games?

If the Wii is non-modified and strictly a non-homebrew machine then yes, might as well keep up with all the latest firmware. As for using BOOTMii, then I would not update the Firmware, may give problems.

Update to 4.1 (4.2 is a useless update), update your IOS's to there latest versions (Download the WAD's using Dop-IOS, install via WAD Manager), you shouldn't have any issues with WiiWare.

I tried Dop-IOS and I was carefully reading that during install and it really froze (crazy freeze text, was out of place ) on me. I tried to redo it and nothing changes. I saw an option saying new channels and then it froze, and find it anymore. I was using Custom IOSX rev 19 and I couldn't play any of the castlevania current new ware games or cavestory

Your IOS's (The original, made by Nintendo IOS's, not modified IOS revisions as Wiiware doesnt use those versions) need to be installed and up to date for more new WiiWare to work, Look around the net there are sites around that allow you to download the latest IOS's either in single files or as a bulk.

okay i'm looking :)

*Update*
Okay i got everything working and doing just fine. Now I can go relax and enjoy watching Kenny vs Spenny because I enjoy the show. Tomorrow is my wii gaming day with no more worries. I did understand about the N ios that I need inorder to get them working. I have heard cave story had aa slight issue in delay of music by accident.

:) :) :)

The only thing that doesn't work is HP printer sd card input correctly. I'll just have to buy a portable sd card reader. No worries. I had the worst April Fools day which was more bad luck curse (13) on me. I didn't know what to install on the wii... I was going bananas

Thankyou

P.S. look at the url of this post "666" Crazy I say

I would recommend upgrading to 4.2 and then just following this guide to install your tools like HBC, etc.

I am on 3.4 and can play mega man 10 you need to install cios 56 look on www.wehackwii.com , you install it with a wad. It is very easy and you do not need to update to 4.2. Always google what the new game requires to play and you should be able to find it. There should always be a solution that does not require you to update, just be patient.

I would recommend not doing this. 4.2 does absolutely nothing as an update. If you want access to the shop channel (You have a softmodded wii, why would you ever want to access the shop channel?!) then you can use a proxy such as CF3B5's PS3 Proxy GUI which allows you to spoof the latest version of the update to your wii, and then allows you access to the Wii Shop Channel.

Exactly what is the issue with being on the latest version which is 4.2? Are there any specific compatibility issues? I haven't had any issues with mine.
