Mystery Cable

Post by CAv »

I have this cable that I obtained in a lot of Atari 7800 stuff, but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with Atari. As you can probably see, on one side, it has two male NES controller plugs, so it must plug into NES controller slots, but the other side has this weird thing that kinda looks like a printer cable. Can anybody identify this thing?

I did some googleing for NES serial cable. From what I can tell, it is the cable to connect the Miracle Piano to the NES. Although it may be a replacement cable as the official "Miracle Cable" is serial to 1 nes port, not 2. Hope this gives you something to go on.

Thanks for the research.
That does look like the same thing, except of course for the extra cable.

Almost looks like the SNES->PC adapter found on Mmmonkey's site...

But I guess this wouldn't be a NES->PC adapter since they're male plugs.

Maybe it was part of a Nintendo dev kit or some sort of adapter for the Playchoice-10 arcade cab?

Man, who was it that posted that random box with a port on it last fall that said Nintendo on it that we all thought was also part of a Play Choice or something.

Well, the only clue I can give everybody is that it is probably a consumer item. I actually got it from my grandmother who was giving me an atari 7800 and some games (Several boxed in good condition too!). This thing just happened to be in the bag with it. She used to have a NES too, so it makes sense that she would have some NES stuff laying around. She wouldn't have owned arcade or dev kit stuff though.

Agree, does look like the Midi cable for the Miracle Piano. Very tempted to get one when it was displayed at "TRU". The large plug is for the keyboard and two plugs out instead of one are confusing though.

CAv, the Miracle Piano is pretty hard to miss, it was a pretty large piano keyboard. Maybe ask your grandmother, might be hiding in the attic or boxed in the garage?

Another thought, never seen how R.O.B. stacker toy robot was attached. I think its a simpler cable. Still maybe that might be in the attic as well, not for the cable mystery but just a very worthwhile find.

A sidetrack question. What all 7800 stuff did you get? I have both 5200 and 7800 consoles. Lot though not all of the 7800 games work with any 2600 compatible controller. of course all the 2600 game carts plug in and work great too!
