Xbox remote problem

Post by oyang »

I got dvd playback kit and the remote. Put working batteries inside the remote and started some dvd. However I cannot get the remote to work.
Is there some need of setting the connection between the remote and receiver? Or maybe the remote is broken?
Will appreciate any help.

yes it plays fine. I wait till the main menu and then try to use the remote. I´ve tried pressing all the buttons and nothing happens:(

Either the receiver or the remote is broken. Considering that the Xbox will refuse to play a DVD (if it's unmodded of course) unless it detects a DVD Remote Receiver plugged into the system I assume that the remote is broken.

Have you put the batteries in the remote the right way?

Yeap, sorry. But they are a dime a dozen now a days. Just say one for $2.99 in the LBC today.

Thanks for help. Seems I am left with two receivers and none working remote.
It's stupid you cannot control the DVD playback with a regular game controller.

BTW. It's unfair in Poland these remotes are about $10 shipped (ebay and my local auction service).

It's because they didn't pay mpeg for the MPEG2 decoder licence. It was a cost-cutting procedure. They realised that not everybody is going to want to play DVDs on the system and just made the feature optional. Buying the DVD remote essentially paid a licence fee to MPEG for the rights to decode DVDs (All DVD players owe this licence to mpeg, it's one of the reasons you can't just play a DVD on a DVD-ROM drive in your PC, you have to buy DVD player software before it will work, of course you can use VLC these days to do it, but regarding the legality of that I'm not sure).

If you don't want to buy a remote you can always softmod with a softmod pack which will install a dongle free dvd player for you. You can use your controller with that. Everybody should softmod their xbox, it's an awesome little machine when it's softmodded.

Talking about softmoding, would you recommend any tutorial regarding it?
