Wii SD 2gb card, help?

Post by benderx »

I just added some wads on my SD card then I updated the homebrew channel. Then installed the wad games, found out I need the latest cios. Went back to my imac insert the SD card into the computer. Now it say I can't delete my files or add files, what the deal? I'm confused. this has never happened to me before.

I can't even Erase or format it, which is now strange. I have backup up everthing and planning try it on windows xp now. Its odd the that picture1.png doesn't load here. It did load a minute ago.

SD cards have a write lock, similar to old VHS use to, make sure the tab on the SD card is not on lock, otherwise your card will be read only.

Its not on lock.
I just tried in on Windows and its not letting me reformat it or delete stuff. It still says protected. Now i'm going to have buy another SD card, why me. I had the SD card for about a year and half.

*update*
I just found out my sd card reader doesn't want read any ad card I put in. I can see sd card files on computer but won't let me reformat, delete or add files. what a Bizzaro world. I have spent so much time on this. early today I was having trouble connecting my wii wifi and finally got it to work.

I've had some odd problems with SD readers myself. They just tend to be cheap chinese crap. I had one that worked great for a while, then all of a sudden stopped mounting in Linux. No partition seen at all. Still worked in windows. Then I had another which was sold as USB 2.0. Never was able to get it to work at high speed though.

I settled on this one. Extremely well built, works perfectly, and even has a slot for microsd without an adaptor. It's a very nice piece of kit.

Ditto for me. I've had one Memory Stick reader that crapped out on me ($4-5 special from DealExtreme). Another microSD card reader that I got with the CycloDS from Nathan that didn't work initially but seems to work now. They're hit or miss.

This is one area I recommend spending extra dough and buying a quality one.

Had the EXACT same issue. I never figured it out. I just used another spare 2GB SD card. No matter how many times I tried to format it on my PC it just would not copy the files across. It refused to format on my mac running OS 10.5. It took my Belkin USB card reader with it too. Thankfully the multicard reader I installed into my PC is more rubust and is still working.

All the more reason to make sure you buy a genuine SD card. I guess I managed to get a cheap knock off, even though it looks like a real kingston one. My other kingston SD card works perfectly.

You mentioned Windows, but 1st post pics are Mac.

Maybe a hard reset and reboot of PC or Mac whichever you prefer? Plug reader back in after reboot to reset read-write memory.

I basically plugged my HP printer which allows sd cards to read onto windows xp... so I hookup a long cable to windows xp and it still didn't reformat it. So I believe it is printer sd card reader that is not working for an odd reason.

Can you write files to it on your Wii? IE going to the memory card manager and copying a save from the Wii to the SD card.

Maybe a dedicated USB memory card reader/writer to bypass the printer memory card slot. You can get one for 10 dollars.
